â Too often we stop reading after the headline, so I believe in leading with the message. Sam Jones, owner of Forward HVAC, comes with my highest endorsement. If you are interested in my authority, and the project that Sam and I got together on, then please continue. I have been around home design and construction for 40 years. In the past 20 years, my projects have been exclusively between $1M - $2M. While in Austin TX, my go-to HVAC was Quality Living Services, owned by Casey Walter. In Denver, it was Dave Ruud of Builders HVAC, exclusively. Both of these individuals and their companies were rock solid. They werenâ t the cheapest choices, but they repeatedly proved themselves to be the right choices. About 18 months ago, I moved to Madison and hopping around the country like this has forced me to become a professional recruiter. In Shorewood Hills, I found the opportunity of a lifetime. It is a mid-century modern, almost 70 years old, designed and lived in by a regionally famous architect. For 30 years, it was in a state of neglect. No one wanted it. It languished on the market for years. And I found it. When it came to Phase I mechanical rough-in, I talked with 5 companies. This was truly a hybrid/custom project. I think it fell so far outside of the estimating rules-of-thumb, and these companies were so busy, that not a single one of them submitted. A 6th company was interested but was hit with a wave of bid acceptances that their backlog went from 2 weeks to 6 weeks in just 2 days. I didnâ t want to wait. Somehow, I crossed paths with Sam. I explained my lack of success in getting quotes and recommended that he consider working hourly. In doing so, this would transfer the risk from him back to me. If it didnâ t work out, I would just respectfully settle up and move on. He told me his hourly rate and it was pretty much I where I expected it to be. We agreed to proceed. I wanted a system that was state-of-the-art. Within days, I learned that Sam had the expertise level to make this happen. When he was on the project, his pace of work was very deliberate. He shows up when he says he will. And he communicates when heâ s off-site. And most important, I think he truly loves what heâ s doing. I donâ t know if Sam will be the cheap bid for your project, but know that he will be the right bid. Regards, Kelly Tormaschy, 720-308-4790, 3407 Circle Close.â
