We chose Four Day Fireplace after looking at other potential contractors in our immediate area. The primary reasons we chose Four Day Fireplace were: 1. They sold a number of different high-end gas fireplaces that had stunning log re-creations with very realistic flame patterns. 2. They were the only contractor we talked to that could do all of the work on the project without me having to coordinate multiple contractors. They could do the fireplace and vent, the stone work on the wall, the electrical work, the hearth tile as well as miscellaneous trim, carpet, etc. to finish the job fully. 3. Their pricing was good, certainly not the cheapest, but in-line with what I expected for the higher end installation that we were looking for. In terms of our project, we initially met with one of their project coordinators who came to our house and discussed the job and various options with us. This went very well and after we made all of our choices, we received an estimate with a specific breakdown for our job. We accepted the terms of the proposal after negotiating the details and were given a start date that was roughly 6 weeks out. This seemed very reasonable to allow for procurement of all materials and preparations to begin the job. We put 50% of the estimated cost down at that time with the balance due upon completion. When our construction date arrived, and the crew showed up to begin the work, the overall experience was very positive. I have an industrial construction background, and have built two houses over the years, so I am very familiar with working with contractors and managing projects. I recently retired after 35 years in the construction business, so suffice it to say that I am not easily impressed when it comes to the typical contractor experience. And, I donâ t typically write reviews. However, the guys that came to my house and worked on my project really impressed me. The key things I observed were as follows: 1. First and foremost, they treated my home with the ultimate respect that we all would like to see. They protected my floors, walls, stairs, doorway thresholds, etc. as if it were their own house. I typically did not even have to ask for it, they just did it. They also cleaned up each evening before departing to make the construction zone livable for us throughout the project. They also used a high-end vacuum as a key tool to avoid dust and minimize any mess inside my house. 2. They greeted me each day and discussed their planned activities, access they needed, and any decisions we may have needed to make as the work proceeded. 3. We ran into a couple of material manufacturer issues over the course of the project, none of which were within control of the construction crew. In fact, one of these issues involved the wall stone, and the construction lead pointed it out to me and stopped the work until we could figure out an appropriate solution. Another contractor may have simply kept going and it could have turned into a big fight down the road. These guys were very quality oriented and wanted to insure that they had a job done right. Not something you always observe. 4. The quality of their craftsmanship was top notch. I observed how they measured, cut, and installed materials, and it was very clear from day one that they were skilled craftsmen, quick and precise in performing all of the work. In closing, I have to say, this may have been the best contractor Iâ ve ever hired to work on a project like this in one of my houses. Many times, the best measure of the quality of a contractor is how they react to a problem that comes up. And, in the case of my project, I thought they handled the couple of unforeseen problems we had really well. We discussed potential solutions and we came up with an appropriate path forward. At the end of the day, I couldnâ t be more pleased with my new fireplace, mantel, and ston...
