GF Sprague Exteriors

This past August, GF Sprague Exteriors of Westwood, MA was hired by me to come to my home to replace a flat rubber membrane roof and install a perimeter railing around that roof. The work was performed under a municipal building permit issued to Sprague. The project was completed on September 04, 2026. The invoice amount was $10,236.14. Sprague was paid in full. Upon examination, there were several low spots where water was pooling on the roof that did not occur with the old roof. Additionally, when the Building Code Enforcement Officer came to inspect the project under the permit, the railing that Sprague installed did not meet building code requirements and failed inspection. The railing posts were not secured to the roof framing. The Building Code Enforcement Officer then called Sprague-twice, asking them to contact me. Sprague did not contact me. I sent Sprague 2 certified letters asking them to repair the defects. Again, they chose to ignore all my requests as of October 11, 2026

I do not recommend this company for hire. G.F. Sprague has crushed my small business. They knew the schedule and then destroyed it after the non-refundable deposit was paid, with no remorse. They are unprofessional and untrustworthy. G.F. Sprague severely underbid so we would not choose another vendor ($3500 vs. average $14,000 from 3 other vendors). The actual project took 9 weeks from deposit to installation - they had quoted 5 weeks. The company did not communicate window fabrication updates until a week after fabrication was complete. They took 3 weeks after fabrication to schedule installation instead of the agreed-upon 3 business days. When told that this schedule was unacceptable, G.F. Sprague had zero resolution to offer. The company consistently lied about scheduling, failed to communicate any important information to the customer, and constantly changed the point of contact instilling utter confusion ALL AFTER THE NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT WAS PAID.

They were very thorough with their estimating process and follow up process. They did not do a good job of starting the work after I paid a deposit, and the quality was just ok as I still have a leak and likely paid to fix something that was not the issue

The attention to the customer, the explanation of what the work involves and the work plan, and the response to customer followup questions, is excellent. I cannot rate the work quality, since I know nothing about assessing roofing repairs, which also impacts any judgment about value for money as related to quality. But, this company is *very* expensive as compared to others in competition. Providers who charge a lot always claim it is due to superior quality, that is, the quality justifies the price, but laypeople cannot tell if that is accurate and justified or not. For us, this company was too expensive to hire for the remaining work.

They are meticulous on documenting change order prompt timely and courteous and the always find something more to do.
