Gary was a pleasure to work with. I initially explained to him what my vision was for my home, and he put all of my details together to create a great design. We love the way he laid everything out for us and allowed us to personalize our home. I would highly recommend him!

Gary knew how to respond on the most efficient way to all our design requirements. He was able to produce an impressive look for our project complying with a rather conservative budget. Throughout the entire process he was very honest and accurate regarding the fees for his professional services. Do to his materials wholesale sources, we were able to save a lot for the completion of our construction project.

My husband and I were referred to Mr. Segal to be an expert architect witness in 2016 construction issue involving our home, by our lawyer who has used him before. (The case was not litigated.) We paid Mr. Segal the required $2,500 retainer to secure his services. We never signed a formal contract with Mr. Segal, and he never said that any unused retainer monies would not be returned to us. Upon closure of the issue by our lawyer, we requested unused retainer monies from Mr. Segal. Instead, Mr. Segal sent us a general itemized bill without dates of service, that was fraudulent. The bill equated to $2,625, and he said that because we were referred to him by our lawyer, that he would not collect the $125 over the $2,500 retainer we previously paid him. We explained to Mr. Segal that his bill claims that he spent 3 hours at our house performing work, whereas he only spent 1 hour 20 minutes taking pictures of our home during the construction. The first time he came to our house was to pick up the retainer money. He did not do any work. His fee statement (bill) states that he created a report for us which took him 8 hours. We never received any report, nor did our lawyer (and Mr. Segal charged more than the original quote for an hourly rate.) He claims to have consulted with our attorney and owner (us) for 2 1/2 hours. He did not consult with our attorney and only answered 1 email from us. He charged us $125 for printing, but we do not know what he printed because we never received a report or any printed documents. He provided no service to us or our lawyer other than when he came to our house one time to take pictures because we did not go to court and our lawyer did not need to utilize his service. We asked Mr. Segal for a $2,140 refund since the actual charges were an only 1 hr and 20-minute site visit (rounded to 1 1/2 hours), which should have been billed $360. He refuses to give us our retainer monies refund. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and he did not respond to the BBB with either of their attempts (total 4 weeks before our case was closed by the BBB). He is very unprofessional and does not recommend him.
Response from Company:
This are the type of individuals who are the nicest until it comes to money ; taking to court everyone.... Probably, I'm one exception, since they know how far from the reality are their comments ! Ask yourself : would their OWN ATTORNEY RECOMMEND a crook ??!!??.... Anyone who'd like more information, please contact me directly at 201 788-4088 Sincerely, Gary Segal, Architect and Planner NY, NJ, CT

Please stay away from this man. I contacted him for an estimate, he came to my house, proposed a plan, and asked me to hand him a check of $500, which I stupidly did, he measured my whole house, came back with a luxurious design that I could not afford, made me sign the design before disclosing the full cost of the design, I had an attic which I wanted to create a dormer on, this man created an expanded design just to increase the cost, after my repeated query on the total amount, he then had no choice than to disclose the final amount which will cost almost $8000 just for a dormer. Please do not hire this architect. I did not listen to the previous reviews on him, I wouldn't have found myself in such an ordeal.
Response from Company:
This is an advise to this person: you cannot base your actions and conclusions on lies! Even the JUDGE ordered you to pay EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR you owe me ; because all your accusations are completely FALSE !!! Advise to other professionals: stay away from this person ! Even her name is FAKE !!! If what you're describing would be my standard practice, I would've not have 4 of my projects published in the New York Times newspaper, 1 featured on TV, become a certified Building Inspector in NYC and be successfully in business for 34 years !!!. Advice to everyone : visit my website at garysegalarchitect.com and meet with me to convince yourself
