Review by Tracie R. in Spring Hill, FL
Project: Remove Trees
When discussing the job he offered to fell the tree for only $200. I said that was fine and to lay it as close to the fence as possible. He then said "ok for another $50 I'll chop it into manageable pieces". I said that was great, and he can pile it all up around the stump. We discussed that's where the brush should be as well. He came today and left all the brush all blocking access to our backyard - on the wrong side of the stump. It should have been on the other side by the fence as discussed. He got very snotty and said "fine for another $50 I'll move it!". I just filled out the check and said I didn't like the attitude, forget it. He then said "you should be happy I gave you a $400 job for $250!" I said "enough of the attitude - stop!" He just kept going on about what a great job he did and how we should be happy. I handed him the check and my husband and I went inside. We were very upset at his attitude so we went outside to let him know it was very wrong of him to be so snotty and rude. He just kept shouting over us and saying we were being rude so we deserved it. He only heard what he wanted to hear. He refused to hear us trying to tell him that you can't speak to customers the way he did. It's not how you do business but he just kept defending himself and accusing us of being rude so we deserve it. He said if I hadn't gotten upset at where he put the brush he wouldn't have gotten upset. I explained I wasn't upset I was confused because I was very clear about where it was supposed to be and he acknowledged that he understood that yesterday when we spoke. Today he said he never hear that and I should read the contract - it says to cut down the tree and cut up into manageable pieces. He then said he did us a favor "piling" it up for us (even though he OFFERED to do that yesterday!). He also starting going on about the hassles he just went through today and he didn't need this, offering that as his half hearted excuse. We told him that is not our problem, he should not treat us badly because of his bad day. He never heard most of that because he was shouting over us saying he didn't need this. He did not let either of us finish one single sentence without shouting over us and throwing accusations at us. We told him that it was especially rude saying we should be happy because he did a $400 for so cheap because that is the price he quoted me. I didn't barter down the price that's what he offered! We will NEVER hire him again and we will make sure the people we know never hire him either. We are bracing ourselves for the most devastating hurricane we have ever experienced here in Florida (I've lived here my whole 55 years of life) and we do not need a snotty brat who never learned respect for others, much less elders and customers, making an extremely difficult situation any more difficult! The young people in business today have no clue what it is to provide respectful customer service. They have no respect for anyone but themselves so they show no respect to their customers. Whether they want to acknowledge it or not their businesses will suffer for it in the end.
