I am not a *garden person*, so I decided to get rid of old mulch and some dirt under it (because it was too high, above foundation; I was worried about termites and other bugs getting easily to my house). All of this information is new to me and trying to deal with it as much as I can. So, I started to look for someone who has experience with it, someone I can trust, and do a nice job. After several estimates, I decided to hire one of them, RUSSELL HUDSON. So, on January 26th, 2019 I hired a man who claimed to have 30 years of experience in lawn care. He was very polite (mam, sir, etc). I paid $1310 for his labor and materials. He insisted on buying materials himself since he has a truck to bring and account at a hardware store. I agreed and wrote him a check. When he came to do it, he brought me a paper hand written what and how much he bought and prices. When I asked him to give me a receipt from the store, he said he does not have. Because of all my concerns, he advised me to buy rubber mulch, weed barrier, and metal fabric... something (sorry, cannot read handwriting and do not remember what it is for). So he started to fix my flower beds. When he finished, I told him that it looks that he did not take enough dirt out and did not cover the irrigation system which he said it is okay that way. I told him that I want to cover the irrigation system back how it was but he said that he thinks it does not work. Also, he showed to me that my drain that connected from wall to underground is not set up properly. At the time was thankful for his opinion. He said that he can fix it but I decided to ask for other experienced opinions and estimates. So, he agreed to redo for free what he did: need to take more dirt out, hide the irrigation system; therefore, needed to buy more mulch. I told him that I will call him or text when I will find out what to do or who can fix those problems he pined point to me. I work weird hours and constantly exhausted. I was getting a few opinions and estimates and it took me a long time. While I was doing this, three weeks later I noticed that grass slowly started to come out from mulch. I was surprised and disappointed. I told him about it but because I still could not find someone to fix another problem, he waited. Unfortunately, it took me up to a week ago finally asked him to come and fix his job. He came and saw the results of his job and did not know why grass would come through when it was not supposed to. I told him that I will buy all the materials myself and that we need to agree on the date. He again insisted on buying himself since it is easier for him to transfer it. After a thought, I decided to agree but I asked him to bring what he will buy at the same day to my garage and receipt from the store, and receipt of an estimate with his business name on it. So I gave him a check for $310-that is what he said he will need to buy weed and grass barrier, more rubber mulch, and cement I think (he said he can fix the wholes that my dog dig in dog runner). He did not bring the same day the stuff. But then couple days later a person came from TruGreen to give estimate for my lawn and she told me that the weeds kind grass is growing on my flower beds, not grass. Then I decided that I will ask him to return my money back and not do anything. That is when he started to say he will need to return to the store but he does not have time (we agreed he will come to fix on May 30th at around 8-9am because I wanted him to finish in one day only.) He said he has lots of customers and will be able to bring me only on Thursday. Well, I texted him this morning (6/1/19) and asked him again to bring either my money or stuff with the receipt.
