Never hire this person. After getting quotes from three different people we choose him because his rates were reasonable. Here is what he agreed to do in my basement. I had bare cement block basement. This is what he texted me. ************** Hello I crunched the numbers and the total is 1750.00 Includes: Prep, sweep, vacuum, cover installation with black plastic using staples and protecting floor and personal items with plastic Dry lock the basement walls with one coat of basement waterproof paint (customers choice) Paint ceiling including I beams and furnace duck work and 4 column / post Paint steps and handrails Trash haul Total = 1750.00 one coat 2275.00 2 coats Let me know if that works for you and your husband and I will email you a formal estimate. Thanks John with HandR ******************* The project will take me 3 days to complete. *************** He started on Monday January 17 after taking $2250 for initial deposit and paint cost. While painting we noticed that he did not do the basic prep work like cleaning the ceiling and walls. So no Prep, sweep, vacuum, cover installation with black plastic using staples and protecting floor and personal items with plastic. He asked us to cover all the belongings ourselves. I had to show him couple of places where he painted over the dirt and cobwebs. Those places he cleaned and painted. He was supposed to finish the work in three days, so should be done by Thursday. But In the middle he started saying that he miscalculated the size of basement and it will take more time and paint. On which we agreed without any discussion. While working he kept on including other task for free and some small price. Like doing a primer before using Drylok paint, doing 4th coat of a semi sheen paint, painting basement floor. But same time he was not doing what he promised. So I wrote down some numbers on my wall with pencil to check if he is painting that wall with next coat. On Friday January 21 he asked us next payment of $750. We gave him without any hesitation. When we asked for paperwork he said to bring in the morning. He was supposed to come on Saturday and finish everything on Sunday. On Saturday he called and told us that he is busy with some work and will come on Sunday. And Sunday weather was bad with lots of snow, so he told us that he will come on Monday. Today Monday morning he came with one other person to finish the job. But as soon as I tried to show him where paint was not done properly, he got mad. Started using bad language. And immediately packed up his things and left. There are walls where he is claiming one coat of primer, two coat of drylok and one coat of semi sheen white paint, and you can see gray concrete there (yes after 4 coat of paint). Now after paying him $2000, I am left with a messy basement. I wish I could post the pics here. But there is no option for that. So if someone is hiring him, please do not hire him for any major work. And do not get misguided with his sweet talks. Most importantly do the paperwork first.
