Update for April 4, 2024 In the spirit of community service to the residents of La Vernia, I am posting an update regarding my dispute and utter dissatisfaction with Jim Elrod and his company Halo Roofing. The inspection (details mentioned in the next paragraph) was completed yesterday. I am expecting the written report with photographs this week. Will post everything here as soon as it becomes available. Dispute history: Due to Jim Elrods uncooperative attitude regarding this matter I have had to take strong measures to resolve the matter unilaterally. I have scheduled an inspection to be conducted by a statewide affiliate of the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (a.k.a. RCAT) *NOTE: see links below ... I have also coordinated the above mentioned appointment date so as to have a representative of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (the TDLR of Austin, Tx.) present during the inspection as well as an insurance assessor from my insurance company. A written report will be made and photographs will be attached to the report. Subsequently, the report will be submitted to RCAT, the TDLR and also to my Insurance Company. Of course, the report will be emailed to me as well. As soon as I have it I will post the entire contents here. Furthermore, I will send a complete copy of the report to the Better Business Bureau and also to the Consumer Protection Agency, Office of The Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and Office of the Attorney General (Ken Paxton, Attorney General of Texas PO Box 12548 Austin, TX 78711-2548) By the way, their mission statement is as follows; We protect Texas consumers by accepting complaints, filing civil cases in the public interest and educating Texans on how to spot and avoid possible scams. *NOTE - Again, as a service to the La Vernia community, I would like to post here links and information relevant to this matter from the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. Explore how Texas unregulated roofing industry impacts homeowners and the need for industry standards. Explore RCATs initiatives for a safer roofing future! [link removed] INTRODUCTION: The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation does NOT currently administer licensure for roofing contractors. Anyone can call themselves a roofer in Texas and they are not required to be knowledgeable, insured, licensed, or even registered with the state. Roofing is a highly skilled trade and the roof is structurally the most important component protecting the contents and integrity of the home or business! Texas residents deserve a higher standard so the RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor program was developed to increase consumer protection and secure public confidence in the roofing industry by elevating the roofing contractors knowledge and professionalism through voluntary self-regulation.
