"This was a job to replace 2 exterior doors. Over the phone, the customer said that he had the replacement pre-hung doors on site and that they were the SAME SIZE as the existing doors so the job was very straight forward. When I arrived at the job site, turns out the replacement doors were MUCH larger, which meant I had to modify the building framing, the exterior siding, and surrounding drywall to accommodate the oversized doors. At that point I gave the customer a revised estimate and told the customer if it was too much that I understood and would not proceed with the project. When given the option to exit the project or proceed with an increased time and cost estimate, the customer insisted on proceeding according to the new estimate. I completed the install of the 2 oversized doors in less time than I quoted in the revised estimate. However, afterwards the customer was not happy with more hours than on the original estimate which was based on having same-sized doors on site."
"The original job was to replace an over-the-range microwave with one the customer had on hand. After removing the old microwave, the wiring was sticking out of a large hole in the wall ? not to code. When I pointed out that it needed a box to be code compliant, the customer was not happy and insisted that I just install the new microwave as the old one had been. In addition, the new microwave design was not compatible because the extra room was needed for the door to swing open freely. I explained that the door to the new microwave would not swing open freely due to the design of the particular microwave she had PROVIDED. She also did not like this news, got upset and told me to just re-pack the new microwave back in the box. I also re-installed the old microwave back with pre-existing code problems per customer?s request. The customer also asked me while I was there to install a small light under a cabinet. I was willing to accommodate that but again, the customer did not want an unsightly box that was needed in the back of the cabinet, so I did not install one. My bad, learned a lesson. I wish the customer would have called me and given me a chance to make things right instead of choosing to call someone else and spend more money. I always warranty my work and want everyone to be happy and have an excellent result."
