Project: Install Drywall
I hired her for a small leasehold improvement which involve few electrical sockets, and separating an area with dry wall. She was second lowest price among the bidder and I went with her bcoz of a franchise name. I really regret it. Work got done because I was always there to make sure things are done as per blue print. Her communication to sub contractor was horrible. One should be aware that their "handyman" are independent sub-sub-sub contractor, where HC have no control. She is just an intermediary, who will pass all the expense to you and keep her margin. In my case, she found a electrician who was referral,s referral's referral. He didn't show up twice and making some BS excuses. I was charge for 500 ft of cable and exorbitant high elec material cost. Material cost was almost half at lowes and I showed her the price. Even she agreed to it that there is no way this much material can be used. But, her reasoning was elec is charging her and she can't do anything. For $300 (out of $10k contract), she argued for 2 wks. Horrible customer service. Same thing happened for windows installation. She screwed up type of window I wanted, esp when I gave the exact pictures. Luckily, window subcontrator had some customer service sense and he waived the cost for first set which were returned ( my personal call with him). Ilene was passing bucks to me and making myself liable for it. Afterwards, she changed her position and charged me additional $ for windows claiming some other crap, as window subcontractor didn't waive her portion of first set windows. I have never seen such a contractor who will change her instance every day. I went out of my way (legally) to make her partial payment (~ 90 %) before completion of work. But she has no respect for customer or customer service sense. Nevertheless, poor responsibility for documentation of material expenses that customer has to pay. If u have small work (e.g. <$500), it may be fine. But anything big, never trust her. If her subcontractor leave, you will be stuck.

The guy had been drinking, he didn't really finish the job, and I think we were overcharged for what he did do.

Prior to the start of the project, I was provided with a clear description of the what would be done, and upon completion of the work, the area was left in clean condition.
