At approximately the end of April/beginning of May we scheduled an appointment to meet with Haans, regarding general landscaping work in the front yard and some masonry work on the side steps. He gave us a start date for 3 weeks in the future and we agreed. It took him almost a month & a half to actually begin. It is now August 11, 2018 and he still hasn't completed the job of reinstalling our dilapidated steps. He comes whenever he feels like dropping by, (usually after 3pm) and most times doesn't show when he tells us he will and never calls to let us know, he just doesn't show up. The wood he used has begun to crack open, and since his work, we have a huge ant infestation all over the steps and retaining wall. He never installed the handrail and there are gaping holes between the wood and stone where sealant/mortar should be. The walkway is uneven, so when it rains, it puddles at the top of the stairs and creates a "mudslide" of dirt, where he removed the bluestones on the side (AND took our existing blue stones with him without permission!). He never did ANY of the other work we initially talked about, like trimming the huge, overgrown hedges and vegetation covering all around the front and sides of the house, weed control, mulching, and planting some shrubs, bulbs and grass in bare areas, etc. We hired him to be a FULL service landscaper, and he just ignored us. After MOST of the masonry job on the side steps was done, he was given all of his quoted estimate. He came by ONE time after getting paid, in the first week of July, to move some blue stones and agreed to come back the following week to finish the job... that was the last time we saw him. Since then, he has not called us without us initiating the call first, and when he does call us back he promises a day he is going to come and he never shows up. At one point he had the audacity to tell us that he "undershot" his initial estimate because he underestimated the amount of work and another day he told me that he hadn't been able to get to his OTHER jobs, because he was coming to work at our house (Umm.., like he was doing us a favor and not getting paid! What nerve!) We don't expect, nor do we want him to come back. My husband and I are livid with the amount of unprofessionalism demonstrated and really don't want the aggravation anymore. We've had to postpone our family BBQ 3 times because of this situation. The amusing part is, my husband had put aside an extra couple of hundred dollars to tip him, because Haans seemed so nice at first, and the amount of work needed around the house would have kept us a steady and PROFITABLE resource over the next 5 years. This is my 2nd experience with a HomeAdvisor referral for home repairs and I will not be using this service again.
