We would give zero stars, but we can't give lower than 1. We have found working with Brady Mayson, owner of Hawthorne Land Development of Custer, WA (also doing business as Woodberry Land Development of Custer, WA) to build our custom home in Blaine, WA has been a nightmare. For over 10 months he showed up sporadically, violated county Building Codes, did not build per the contract, and even demanded extra money to do work in accordance with the contract, and then just abandoned the project and walked off the job. Mayson refuses to respond to our attorney or us to come to terms on an exit agreement, including a master lien wavier required by our lending bank in cases like this. This placed our construction loan into suspension and we were unable to draw funds from the load to go on with the work. He owes us money for work which he attested to the bank as complete but in fact was not. Both the framing and plumbing were not completed as he had claimed. There was still work that had to be completed to clear the Whatcom County Building Code violation. Additionally, he removed construction material for our house site that we had paid him for, which we are now having to buy again.. We have documentation and photos of these issues. Although we did all our due diligence in researching and interviewing Mayson / Hawthorne Land Development, LLC, before we signed the contract, he apparently decided that building a house per the Building Code and the approved design drawings was not what he wanted to do, so he walked away and abandoned the job. We would strongly recommend not using this person or business to build or remodel your home, or purchase a house that he has built. We found him to be less than honest, unreliable and his work to be subpar. We found it impossible to know what he would do - or not do - or what issues one might find down the road. Would anyone want to do business with someone who could treat his customers in such a shoddy, unprofessional way?
