If you are looking for a handyman in Northern VA, stop searching and book him immediately. He just finished installing an under-deck ceiling for us today, and the results are absolutely flawless.

We hired this contractor to build a deck and complete related exterior work. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from both a workmanship and project management standpoint. The project took approximately one month longer than originally expected, and even after the extended timeline, portions of the work remained unfinished. Throughout the project, several significant mistakes were made, including damage to existing brickwork and damage to the basement ceiling while attempting work that appeared to be outside the contractor's area of expertise. We made numerous compromises along the way in an effort to keep the project moving forward and avoid further delays. However, many of the issues we raised were dismissed rather than addressed professionally. Instead of acknowledging legitimate concerns about quality and workmanship, we were often told that we were being "too picky." Just a few picks of us being PICKY

"I am truly sorry this customer had a negative experience, we worked hard to address there concerns as efficiently as possible. We replaced 2 post and three railings, one of which was moved to improve their view from the dining room and 12 Trex deck boards. The materials were delivered on 5/7 and Final inspection was called on 5/28, during that three week span there was a week straight of rain and a holiday. It is a really good deck that I am proud of , the building inspector commented " you could land a helicopter on it". This was a very difficult customer that I did my best to appease ,when the customer became abusive we decided to mutually cancel the contract deducting $2000 for interior work not completed. When I picked up my final payment I was rewarded with half of a peace sign from the customer ."

I hired Joe to install a new fence which looks great. The cost Joe charged me was very reasonable- it was more than $1000 less than other quotes I received. Joe was very good at communicating and giving me updates on the project. He also was responsive to my feedback. Joe went above and beyond by offering to haul away my broken down patio furniture in addition to my old fence.

I think Joe is a very respectful guy, a hard worker and he is constantly in touch with you regarding your project. I cannot say the same thing from his helper, as he was not trained to do the job, consequently affecting the termination of the project. Lots of nails missed the beams, some areas where just patched and another small section left unfinished. Cedar planks from the adjacent fence were taken out, some broken and replaced, but not with cedar planks. Neighbor complained about trash left behind the fence. There was certainly a lot of manual labor involved, but lacked the finishing touch.

Joe did a great job with our shed project. He handled every aspect of the project from tearing down the old shed, to cleaning and staining the existing fences to building a new shed which is significantly larger than the old one. No matter what we asked him to do on the project, he was able to adjust and accommodate. We would hire him for other projects.

I hired Hndyguy for a redeck project to replace the old and worn floor and railing boards with TREX. Joe’s bid was competitive and he communicated well before and after the contact was signed. I really liked his position to both clearly articulate his professional opinion/recommendations and listen to the customer’s considerations and preferences. The job was done well and in a timely manner, despite challenging weather conditions with rapidly changing forecasts, frequent rain, and high heat and humidity. The deck is old and required new joists which were installed well and provided good support for the new boards. Joe was readily accessible and kept me in the loop while the job was being done. Highly recommended.

I hired this company to power wash and stain my back deck and replace a few rotten boards. I was not completely satisfied. Joe's communication style was very responsive but he had lots of excuses showing up later once he gave you a time. His work was marginal. This was evidenced when I sent him a picture of a board that was clearly cut too short. His response back to me in a text was that "I think was within tolerances quarter inch on a fence". Yes, those were his exact words. This told me he is ok with substandard work. Someone that cared about quality work would have ripped the board off and cut a new on with a proper cut. I had cautioned them about overspray but had to have them come back out to clean up a small area. Why wasn't it inspected prior to leaving the job site?.

"We addressed Mr [Consumer Name Removed] concerns within 24hrs, we removed some overspray on some siding, for which he thanked us, and we also removed some trash for which he did not. Mr. [Consumer Name Removed] also requested some additional power washing on his front porch, which he portrayed to be 2 steps, which was actually. 5 steps a walkway and the sidewalk, I would advise avoiding Mr . [Consumer Name Removed]"

Of the three estimates I requested to wash and stain my aging deck and stairs, Joe is the only handyman who came in person to bid on the job. Therefore he was prepared and willing to make necessary small repairs and replacements. Joe and his helper were on time and efficient. The deck and stairs look great and will last.

Joseph repaired my fence last year. He was very timely and his team did a great job. Unfortunately, some of the nails starting coming out recently, and he came out and honored his one year warranty and did some extra work to seal the deal and to ensure a little more longevity. Positives:
Joe is a great professional who knows what he's doing and have a great deal of experience in building and repairing decks. He explained process and what steps will be taken during the project.
Negatives:
Although he is a great communicator, Joe does not observe his own deadlines and promises he makes. Despite a few setbacks from county about permission and inspections, it still took Joe about 2 month to finish my deck. There was a constant push from me to complete the job. Joe is also consistently asking for money in advance and making all kinds of excuses to avoid doing a job although there was no logic in dragging this project, but it could have been done way faster and better. Joe is not a good communicator when it comes to completing a job, and there is a feel of slacking in his work.
Recommendations:
I would still recommend Joe, but I would ask for a firm and realistic date for completion of a project and realistic deadlines. Please stick to the contract.
