    We had to fire Douglas Fender and his company, Indian Summer Pool and Spa. Here is why: We had Indian Summer install a large, expensive (approximately $20,000, plus around $10,000 in concrete work) spa for us. Fender likes to make a big deal that this was done 2 days before Christmas. Some Christmas Present. A month later the spa begins suddenly shutting down for no known reason. He or his employees come out on several occasions due to several more shutdowns. Additionally, the spa develops issues where it is overheating, and also loses all power in all but 2 of the jets. Aside from the overheating, these shutoffs and limited jet functions continue to this date. After more than 2 months of this and numerous texts and visits, my wife texts Fender that we are tired of this and should not have to be dealing with this with a brand new spa, which does not work correctly. This set off a very heated exchange with Douglas Fender, which ultimately resulted in us firing him and Indian Summer and working directly with the manufacturer to resolve the issue. Fender accused us both of lying about the problems, was himself caught in a very serious lie and engaged in shocking unprofessional behavior. All of this is documented in our text messages. At the time of this writing, the spa still does not function correctly. Indian Summer refuses to refund our money due to the owners claim that they are experiencing severe financial problems. I recommend going with any other outfit in the Springfield, MO area for your pool and spa needs. YOU DO NOT TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS THIS WAY.

    Unfortunately Mr. Bultas has exaggerated his inability to use the spa up to the point where there was a failure in one of the aux. boards in the spa. pack. The part wasn't available due to the covid issue shutting down the manufacturing plant where the spa pack was made and this was confirmed by the owner of the spa manufacturing company himself. Mr. Bultas demanded we refund 100% of his purchase price for the very large and custom spa (seats 10) which isn't done in this industry and when I told him we'd install a completely new spa pack (control system, not just the bad board) he threatened our company stating either we do the complete refund or he'd do everything in his power to put our business out of business, He's left very bad reviews on at least 4 of the major review sites as well as went out of his way to stop by a neighbor we are doing a pool install for to try to create dissention in our companies relationship with them.. We as well as the spa manufacturer's owner stood ready to replace the spa pack as soon as the company went back into production. I have all of the correspondence between Mr. Bultas and his wife in text format (contains all the communication between the co. and the Bultas's in regards to the spa issue. We've sold these brand of quality spas for over 10 years and we are their local warranty repair center for any issues which have been very minimal over the years. We also work on all other brands of spas. His position is one of blackmail and intimidation. A position we will not fall prey to nor will be submissive to. We and the manufacturer still stand ready do any and all repairs necessary once the spa pack manufacturer starts up production again..     This was a horrible experience for my husband and myself. Once they started the project we were having to prepay for work not yet completed and when we complained we were told tehy would not complete the job unless we prepaid for it. We paid for the upgrade glass pebble swimming pool floor and it looks horrible. This also included the installation of an in-ground hot tub and again the glass pebble floor was uneven, blotchy and just looked horrendous. The hot tub leaked to the point we could not even use it and had to have it filled in. They are dishonest and one of the worst experiences we have ever had. We feel as if we were incredibly ripped-off.

    This customers attempt to discredit our company with their skewed view of what happened 7 years after the completion of the project is just another example of their families way of dealing with us and the several other subcontractors on the project. For those who would like a full view from both sides please visit the Springfield Mo. area BBB where we have a A+ rating. There you will find the complete story equally from both perspectives. We try our best to please all of our customers, unfortunately the mark was off with these customers. Julie's husband was hostile almost from the start of the project. It created a very negative situation while we finished up the project. We haven't been back on the project since we finished it 7 years ago, so as far as the spa leaking, proper winterizing is crucial in these parts. There was never a call from this customer about any leak at any time after we competed the project when there was no leak present. We offer a 100% guarantee on our pool & spa closings and a 3 year warranty on our installed products. They did not avail themselves of our services after the build. I cannot speak to the capabilities of the person they used for their pool & spa closings or what happened after we finished up on the project. The pool and spa was functioning as designed & contracted, and had fulfilled the contract to where Julie reported to the BBB that the pool and spa was appropriately completed and acceptable to her. Sorry for their issues but it wasn't created by our work or business.

    As a new home owner, I am more the thrilled by the high quality of work done by Indian Summer Pool and Spa. I called Doug Fender (one of the owners), who made an immediate appointment with me to discus my plans to expand my patio, along with three other companies. Doug when through all available options, costs and expectations on the job I wanted done. Not only did he have a great team of employee's show up on time, they had everything organized from ground prep, rock deliver, concrete delivery, and temporary fencing down to the minute. I was very impressed with the owners showing up to make sure that I as a home owner was happy with each step of the process and that every employee was very efficient and knew their area of expertise. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing work done on a project you want done right. Just a note not only did the come in on budget, but the other companies I called did not have any where the game plans or explain the details of what to expect. This is a company you will be happy with.

    Great communication and very helpful with great ideas, Doug Fender and Craig Fender whom we have also contracted to build our in ground pool (owner Fender Bros. construction / Indian summer pool and spa) have really went out the way to get this huge project underway, from talking to our HOA architect board answering questions for them, and changing the pool project several times for my wife and I. The project is just underway and I will keep you updated as it moves along, Great

    We are very happy we hired Indian Summer to build our pool. They did a quality job and our backyard is so beautiful now. They are very nice, genuine people to deal with and I would recommend them. They paid special attention to asthetics, quality, and a job done right.
