This was the absolute worst experience my husband and I have had with a contractor. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND ISLAND HOME IMPROVEMENTS or LOU & MICHELLE FRENCH. We HIRED ISLAND HOME IMPROVEMENTS AND LOU AND MICHELLE FRENCH in June 2022 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine and to date have paid them 23,500. We had a forensic engineer specialist come look at the deck and there are MULTIPLE CODE VIOLATIONS AND SAFETY ISSUES. Job was not completed in time frame PROMISED. . We paid a large percentage of money up front contrary to Maine state law that any job over 3,000 is supposed to be paid in 1/3s, which was unbeknownst to us at the time. This was all supposed to be done before our wedding ( in July 2022) so people could stay at our house. Deck is still not completed because no other contractor will touch it because they do not want to assume the responsibility of all the code violations and safety issues. Crew would disappear weeks at a time. Quality of materials were not as promised, NOR the QUALITY of the work. They promised a lot and delivered very little. When we hired ISLAND HOME IMPROVEMENTS AND LOU AND MICHELLE FRENCH , they never informed us that Mickey Eckerd would be building our deck either, however the checks were all written to a ISLAND HOME IMPROVEMENTS . We never met Mikey till he came on site. I wish we could post pictures of our deck so I could show the code violations and safety issues so this does not happen to more people although now having read the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU SITE - ISLAND HOME IMPROVEMENTS AND MICHELLE and LOU FRENCH we see there is an identical issue, to ours, about a deck. A letter to the Better Business Bureau will be the next letter I will be writing.

HOME OWNERS BEWARE. We hired this local company back in April 2022 to build a deck for us. The neighbors also hired this company to build their deck. Both decks were not built well. We contacted the owners MICHELLE & LOU FRENCH in August. We have not seen them. They promised to come back out & fix the deck. Time & Time again they never showed. Lou called me & left a message said he would be out next week.... never showed. I just want you to THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO BUILD!!!

They did not stand by their word. They have not reimbursed over $1000 in funds as promised. 

They have not kept their word.

Working with this company was wonderful. Lou and Michele are very professional and really are knowledgeable about every aspect of the job. The painters did a fantastic job on our home painting both the outside trim and shakes on our 2700 sq ft two story home. The price was fair. The painters (3) worked very hard every day, on time every day. A side note is that they stored all the ladders in the back of the house at the end of every day as not to hamper our coming or leaving. There was not a drop of paint on our porches, flowers, or plants as they covered everything during the job. We would have no doubt that this company can be trusted to start and complete any job you have. We would recommend Island Home Improvement to everyone we know. Thank you for a job well done!

Excellent. They are great very professional the finished product are very good I would definitely use them again for any other home improvement projects.

Great to work with the Island team - they know their stuff. Replaced the entire roof and 4 skylights. Great attention to detail and cleaned up everything as they went. Made the project simple and smooth. Completed everything on schedule.

It was a great experience from the beginning they answered all my questions and they were very professional through it all. The communication was great and they remained available by text and phone call and email.

Their communication & followup is exceptional Cleaned up thoroughly after the job Replaced roof shingles and several skylights We highly recommend them

There crew was professional and courteous and respected our property. Work was finished before time at a fair price and exceeded our expectation.

We had a new deck, outdoor shower and bar installed and the work came out excellent. The team were great to deal with and they were in and out in a few days. I would definitely hire them for future projects!

Louis is very good at staying in good communication with his clients at all times! I was very pleased with his work! We had a lot of things that took place that were unexpected and he was very good at keeping us informed and making sure we were ok through it all! He really impressed me by showing he is not afraid to ask for help on things he is not familiar doing, to make sure he is doing them correctly! I could not be happier!

The crew did an excellent job, showed up on time and worked very well with us. I am very satisfied with the work completed.

They were the higher bidder but we think they were worth it........Lou & his crew were very pleasant and worked very well together.....they showed up bright & early....they knew what they were doing & got it done.....we feel that we made a good choice.

I have been a real estate Broker/Owner since 1986 and Lou French and his staff were the consummate professionals in all that they do... From the initial phone call by answering all of my questions, and he answered all of them and made additional comments on the ones that needed an additional comment on or an explanation which is rare for a contractor to do...! In other words, Lou is a very patient contractor who is very knowledgeable about all aspects of contracting/renovations and roofing which we needed to have replaced on our family home in Southport, Maine. Low and his crew showed up when he said he would to start the job (remove the old roof, installed ice dam protection, ridge vents, re flashed the 100+ year old chimney and re-flashed our newer skylight, replaced boards that had deteriorated and ones that were falling apart after 100+ years of being re-roofed many times. Lou and his crews work was some of the very best I have seen in 35+ years of being a real estate broker who has worked with many contractors over the years. All of their work including clean-up every day (final clean-up was meticulous) - Lous pricing was good and very fair for the original roofing job and the prices he charged me for the unseen work that absolutely need to be done was also very fair. If you want a **True Professional** who is committed to the schedule of time he quoted to have the job done for you and who is a very considerate contractor, you will not go wrong if you hire Lou French to do the job for you and if you do, you will be very happy with the end result of the job he will do for you. Great experience working with Lou and Michelle. Communication of schedules and follow-up was excellent. Estimates were detailed and accurate. Unanticipated issues were clearly identified and options presented. Great experience overall.

We have been using the services from Island Home Improvement for quite a few projects this year. What has stood out most of all is the beautifully installed new roof. Lou and his crew are truly experienced professionals as they worked well and safely together. Plus they left hardly a trace of the old materials at the work site. We are looking forward to working with Island Home Improvement for future projects.
