We hired Ivan for replacement of fire stairs. Overall the job was good though there are parts that should have been done better but were not. Ivan then took payment for a job that he did not finish (bollard installation in the garage). He never replied to requests to have the job finished, or resolved the work.
Response by Ivan Alberto Rivera Rivas: I did reply to all of the calls and texts messages from Mr Stephen, actually my customer was not stephen B my costumer name was Harry Thomas they both live in a two unit condo . Stephen he was mad because he wanted me to lie to the San Francisco Department of Building Inspections to give them a false statement about a 3 stories deck. that I built for them that I actually have a very good review from, my future customers can read it was written on 5/30/18. Mr Thomas and Mr Stephen had a big argument in front of me after the 3 stories deck was built because Mr Stephen did not wanted to spend the money on structural plans and only paid for architectural plans, he wanted me to say things about the job that where false and could of had my contracting license revoked or suspended. Again I have nothing to hide I am a honest person and always will be for the good reputation of my company.

This project actually started with the need to take care of a patch of DRY ROT in the siding. It was underneath an Exit / Deck-like staircase. Both the staircase and the door / doorway ended up needing to be replaced. We are grateful to Ivan and his team for accomplishing all of this professionally, in short order, and in a timely manner, before the rainy season. Thank you!

Ivan helped us remodel our kitchen and we had a very positive experience. Him and his team installed cabinets, backsplash, counter tops, a new water line to our refrigerator, a new sink and new faucet for us. He was professional and responsive throughout the process and was knowledgeable about the various pieces of work that needed to be done. His team took good care of our house and made sure to keep the dust at a minimum. Overall, we were pleased with the quality of the work and the pace at which everything was completed.

Ivan was very professional, far more affordable than other quotes and was able to meet our tight deadline. A pleasure to work with him.

We liked Ivan from the start - knowledgeable, friendly and the cost he quoted was verified as a going rate. However we had various issues that we're still dealing with. DO NOT hire him unless you're able to do fix-ups of remodel work yourself. Let's start with the kitchen: - To save money we ordered everything for Ivan's team to install. Cabinets from the store he recommended arrived and were flawless. After they were installed, there's nicks on about half the doors. The cabinet doors weren't level, so my husband had to take them off and reinstall them. He found about 10 drill holes by the ceiling - they didn't use a stud finder and couldn't find the stud. - The cabinets above the fridge were so close to the fridge that you couldn't even open the doors (despite my husband specifying the space he wanted). And even worse, they broke our fridge handle. Because the model is old, we couldn't replace it and had to get a new fridge! - They did not take the proper steps to prevent a mess in the house or have cleanup equipment. They were using saws in the kitchen but didn't have any sort of dust control so everything in our house was covered in sawdust. They didn't have a Shopvac so my husband had to lend them his. Because we have a 2 bdrm condo, my husband ended up cleaning up after them every day to prevent our stuff getting ruined. - Their saw for the backsplash had a dull blade, so they waisted a bunch of tile with bad cuts - if this hadn't happened we would've been able to return a box for over $150. - I ordered a pearl backsplash and instead of having the grout only as the connector for the tile, the tile guy rubbed it all over the textured tile and didn't clean it off. Another thing my husband ended up doing. - They installed our new sink and the fixture is so lose that it moves right to left. - When there were extra parts and grout, they took it without asking vs leaving it for us. So all this happened and we let Ivan know we were disappointed. He had left town to Nicaragua so a lot of this happened via text - sharing photos, etc. His travel was another problem - for weeks he didn't check on our job or send anyone to do so. We initially agreed to have them do the bathroom after the kitchen, but there was no contract, so with the work so poor, we didn't want to continue or give him the remaining $4K for the kitchen. When Ivan came back to town, he looked at everything and apologized, acknowledging responsibility for these issues. Ivan asked to "make it right," and said they'd do the bathroom seamlessly and quickly. In retrospect we shouldn't have agreed to this, but it had already been 2 months of work and I was ready to get our bathroom fixed asap (we had a flooding issue). While the bathroom project went much better than the kitchen, it wasn't without issues: - We had a stack of boxes in our living room with our medicine cabinet, vanity, etc. My husband specifically said to not open the various boxes, and that he'd handle it (he's home during the day). He ran out to run an errand, and low and behold the vanity box was opened and the marble was cracked. It likely happened via shipping but the point is we wouldn't have had this issue if they waited for my husband to open the boxes like asked. - My husband had to redo the grout in the tub because 3 weeks later it was already coming out (they didn't use enough). - The tub drain wasn't installed properly and wouldn't hold water. We thought it was an issue with the product, until my husband fixed it (wasn't installed right). Ivan's workers were all nice, respectful and trustworthy but I wouldn't recommend hiring him unless you're ready to do a bunch of work after they're done. While Ivan's pricing seemed competitive for SF, I did not expect all this additional work on top of it. Plus I have a text message trail with him pushing me to do a review then saying forget it when I said I'd be honest. Beware.
Response by Ivan Alberto Rivera Rivas: To my future customer, I did remodel a kitchen for this couple finished the job leaving a balance of $4,000 . I do want to ask a question if I would have made a mess in their house or anybody else's house would you call me back to do another job for you? I honestly don't think so. However they called me back to also finish their bathroom. I started the new job with the promise that they would pay me the balance . at the end they paid 80 percent of the job and kept $2000 and as of today all I've got from them where insults and a very ridiculous review . You can judge our reputation reviewing all my past customers reviews.

Ivan was great. Very professional and did was he said he was going to do (a rare find). He has a good team, great communication and flexibility when we had a delay (found termites and needed to deal with that before completing the project.) Ivan and his team were extremely responsive when I needed something or changed my mind on materials. He's a rare find, it's always scary going into a project of unknowns and he helped shepherd me all the way though completion, while never looking to price inflate. Definitely recommend. Thank you for everything Ivan-- we love our GORGEOUS new deck!!

My husband and I hired Ivan to remodel our kitchen. He was professional, knowledgeable and worked with our budget. He stayed in contact with us throughout the whole process. As in any remodel there were unexpected things come up but Ivan worked with us in a timely manner. His team are hard working and friendly. They even clean up after each job. The only caveat with his team is if you want it done a certain way you'll need to make sure you communicate it. Other than that, our kitchen is beautiful! We get compliments on it all the time. Even comments that it looks like a showroom. Thanks Trillium for turning our kitchen into our dream kitchen!

Ivan did a great job on my very large back deck. He always checked in to discuss the process and update or issues we encountered during the process such as rotting wood or other issues. He was always on time and always answered his phone. He also made changes when we requested them.
