Reviews
Write a ReviewJohn was fantastic to work with. He started our project earlier than expected and finished very quickly. Love how our patio project turned out!
Johnâ s work was incredible! An amazing eye for detail, clear passion and heâ s so kind!
John Caruso and his Co-Workers did an amazing job repairing our front steps, consisting of veneer stones on the faces and limestone treads. They demolished the existing, and were able to salvage the existing base, reinforce it with some hydraulic cement and leveler, and then construct the new steps back exactly where the old steps were; saved my wife and I a bunch of money! I will be using Caruso Construction Corp in the future, and highly recommend them for those looking to do similar projects!!
John and his crew installed a beautiful brick walkway and patio at our property in Newton. Very detailed and cleaned up at the end of every work day. Highly recommend him.
Thank you John for the business. Enjoy the new space.
On May 23, 2021, I contracted Mr. Caruso to do four things: 1. Install a patio 2. Put down a planting area to surround that patio 3. Construct a driveway 4. Place retaining walls around that driveway Mr. Caruso failed to do any of them correctly. He started late. He finished late. I filed Claims in Arbitration (American Arbitration Association: Charles F v J.C. Caruso Corporation, Case number: 01-22-0002-0892) against him for the first two things, and forced him to compensate me for the others after he acknowledged he had done them wrong. Let me address each item: 1.) The patio that John Caruso installed fell apart less than two weeks after he completed it, with pavers sinking into the ground and coming up along the perimeters. Do not take my word for it. Here is the email John Caruso sent after I alerted him to his mistake: THIS IS OUR FAULT...WE WILL FIX IT. It was unquestionably his fault. In addition to Mr. Caruso admitting so himself, the Claim against him was settled in my favor on September 1, 2022, for $17,850.80, including Attorneys fees, Arbitration fees, and filing costs. Mr. Caruso was awarded nothing on his baseless attempt to recover legal fees and costs. 2.) The area surrounding the patio, meant to take on plantings, was a mudhole as put down by Mr. Caruso. It could not support anyone standing or walking on it. You would sink into it if you tried. This was another item in my legal action against Mr. Caruso. It too was settled in my favor. At first, Mr. Caruso suggested that all ground-covering areas need time to firm up. When he saw that would not work, Mr. Caruso*s excuse for the ground not supporting any weight was that it had rained in the days after the installation. The Arbitrator saw no merit to his defense and dismissed it. 3.) Mr. Caruso put in a driveway that was the wrong size. He did this despite the contract clearly stating its proper measurement. Because his work was running well behind schedule, I agreed to allow Mr. Caruso to compensate me for the driveway error by enlarging the dimensions of the patio. 4.) Mr. Caruso placed one bluestone cap on top of another in one corner of the driveway*s retaining walls. He tried to convince me that this was how the job was supposed to look: You can never get it perfect. When pressed on the issue, he was forced to admit and then fix his mistake. He did not offer to do it voluntarily. In compensation for the retaining wall error, Mr. Caruso paid an independent contractor to install a small railing on my exterior front steps. The things listed above are all well documented. Here are some other things you might want to consider. The last time I saw Mr. Caruso, I informed him that I was going to file a Complaint against him. Looking to see if anyone was within earshot, he whispered, Keep up with this. See what happens. My wife and I are senior citizens; Mr. Caruso*s remark caused us to fear for our safety. If you must sue or go to Arbitration with Mr. Caruso to recoup at least some of your money, you may have to endure his use of stalling tactics to run up your legal fees to discourage you from going forward. He sent my attorney an email that read, Look forward to litigating this in court the next couple of years. But why put yourself through an unnecessary ordeal when you can hire a capable and honest contractor instead? In the end, you may recover your expenses from John Caruso. What is non-recoverable is the time you will have been forced to spend doing so.
SP Comments Submitted. This whole situation is a sad nightmare, especially when my love for the Elderly is taken into account. But alas,I am forced to respond to these falsities, as I cannot have my livelihood be slandered any longer! First and foremost, I have never threatened anybody; the mere idea of it goes against everything I am about and is a flat out lie!! Ive been in Construction for 17+ years, I have personally never experienced anything close to what Charles Farrell & Betsy Hirsh (127 Langley Road) put me through. They continuously raised minor asserted deficiencies, that were easily correctable, in order to extract free additional work .I reluctantly installed a new railing and expanded their patio free of charge do to this conjuring. Even after they acted content with those freebies, something else would be conjured, and then at that point I realized I was dealing with patterned, professional scammers! I took immediate responsibility for the sinkage on the patio border, communicated that I would fix it free of charge, but was quickly squeezed for additional free work & added materials. Throughout the Summer of 2021, Newton experienced an unusual amount of rain (3 Noreasters:10in in July, 7in in Aug and 5in alone in the week we completed). Charles review fails to point out that when we went to Arbitration, the Arbitrator did not award Charles all of the repair costs he sought. Rather, the Arbitrator found that Charles properly incurred $3,500 to repair the perimeter part of the patio next to the driveway wall and $600 for an engineering report. The Arbitrator further found that Mr. Farrell did not provide sufficient proof that the remaining $4,900 cost for the complete removal/reinstallation of the pavers and installation of different subsurface materials [what Mr. Farrell was seeking to be awarded] was, in fact, needed. Charles attempt to recover the entire cost of the patio installation, was based on the contention of his supposed experts that he had testify, to the effect that my work was deficient for which the Arbitrator specifically rejected that contention. It was at this time that I began to ask around, and found multiple Contractors with whom Charles had disputes similar to ours. So similar in fact, that it eventually became clear to my Attorney & I, that Charles & Betsy basically hatch schemes to bilk contractors out of earned wages via pre-meditated nit-picking, regardless of the body of work. Even during litigation with me, Charles created enough of a narrative of fault with Andaz Construction (617-755-9063), where he negotiated free extra work and/or reduced pricing. Turns out Charles and Betsy pulled the same shenanigans with Electrician William Dignan (617-872-1082) & Fernando Felisberto (781-760-7940), consistently throughout a 1st floor bathroom renovation. Same w/fellow Elder, 69 yo Carpenter Tom Quinn (617-939-1353), after he built them new decking. Please visit newton.viewpointcloud.com. You can pull up all the permits they have pulled at the property 127 Langley Road. All contractor info is there and you can call them all and they will each tell a separate horror story.I really do not know or understand why Mr. Farrell is the way his. Perhaps it is just his habit after years working in a tough business crossing over the edges of organized crime (fight fixing and extortion) as described so vividly in his self-published book entitled Lowlife: A Memoir of Jazz, Fight-Fixing and The Mob. Or maybe his life-long disdain for manual labor, also referenced in the book, causes him to treat hard-working blue collar folks in the trades so poorly and with such little regard. Maybe both. But no matter the reason, I would say that his effort to portray me as dishonest and threatening toward him, and to play some kind of age card as if he and Ms. Hirsh are some kind of passive victims in need to protection, is really ridiculous. We had an awesome experience with John Caruso and his team. He was quick to provide a very good estimate. The work commenced on time and every detail was dealt with skillfully. John was completely open to our ideas for minor changes that naturally occur during any construction project. The end product of a new brick walkway with new stone steps looks fantastic and truly compliments the entrance to our 19th century Victorian Newton home. Thanks John and crew. I cannot compliment them highly enough!
Thank you, Dr. Rich. Pleasure doing business with you. Glad you are happy with the finished product.
They replaced our retaining walls. They went above and beyond.
Thank you, Aaron. We appreciate the business.
I love a company that does what it says it will in a timely manner. Well done John.
Thanks, Julie. You were a pleasure to work with.
John is extremely knowledgeable, hard working and responsive. We are thankful we found him to complete our stone walkway. He couldnâ t have done a better job.
Thanks, Kristin. We are grateful to have such great clients. Thank you for the business.
They did a great job, all the work was done on schedule and had clear communications about the job. They provided high quality work overall and would definitely work with them again.
Thank you, Bernard. The patio and walkway came out great. Do not hesitate to call if you ever need us back for anything.
