I requested a quote from J.D. Concrete Innovations, LLC ROC# 306388 for a sidewalk. I gave him a drawing of the sidewalk location and approximate dimensions. His quote came back at $3900 for approximately 460 sq ft of 4 inch thick 3,000 psi concrete/grade, set forms, pour, and finish/haul off all excess dirt (pump included). I replied that I would take care of hauling off all excess material, as he said it cost him $250 to $350 a load. I also told him that the sidewalk was accessible from the road and asked if a pump was needed since it could easily be wheelbarrowed in and if he could reduce the cost based on these two items. Jerry responded with a price of $3100 for the same quoted work. I agreed to the $3100 price. Once the form was completed on the first day, Mr. Hall asked for 50% down. I immediately wrote him a check. During the form, I noticed that the front sidewalk was not a consistent 36 inches the entire length. I notified Jerry and he stated that he would have his guys fix it before the concrete arrived in the morning. The next morning, the crew arrived and made the final preparations for the pour. For some reason, the crew left at about 8:25 am. The cement truck arrived at 8:44 am. I notified Jerry by text that the truck was here but his crew was gone. After 20 minutes and still no crew, I called Jerry and told him the truck had been here for 20 minutes but his crew was gone. He said he would call them. About 10 minutes later, the crew arrived and completed the pour. The sidewalk gate was left attached to the walls as they felt they could slope the concrete enough to allow clearance. After the pour was complete, I was told that they were not able to slope the concrete and that the gate would have to be removed and raised for an additional $100. I felt this should have been part of the work since it was their mistake, but agreed to the price since I needed a working gate. Jerry stated he would return the next day when the concrete was dry and raise the gate. The next day, when he was supposed to arrive, he texted me and said he could not make it and it would be the following day. During my cleanup of the area, I noticed that the outside corner of the sidewalk was higher than the rest and sloped towards the driveway. The sidewalk near the gate sloped away from the house, resulting in a visible twist. I also noticed that the concrete next to the house was unfinished, with gaps running the length of the expansion board. When Jerry arrived the next afternoon, I asked him why the corner was so high. He stated that his guys just followed the contour of the ground, so they would not have to dig anything out, even though the quote included grading. I then asked him why they did not run the sidewalk level from the current driveway so water would not run into the driveway. He then asked me if I wanted him to leave. I said no, and he stated that if I had not beat him up about the price, his guys would have dug it out properly and added ABC to prevent cracking, which was now evident in the sidewalk. At no time in the negotiation process for the sidewalk did he tell me that any reduction in price would result in his crew cutting corners and not completing the project as quoted. His crew left all the debris for me to dispose of, and no pump truck was used, even though both were included in the quote. Once the gate was raised, he left without saying anything. I filed a complaint with the BBB and the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. The contractor complaint was dismissed due to the issues not exceeding the guidelines. Mr. Hall called me names during the inspection and said the quality of his work was because I was a cheapskate. Mr. Hall has not responded to the BBB complaint. I cannot recommend his company due to his poor customer service, not following his written estimate, and unwillingness to work with me or even discuss the issues.

Sub standard workmanship. Left a half ton of AB debris and broken concrete debris on my property and refused to remove. Estimate cost to remove will be between $250 and 300 on me. Slab poor had exposed rock from failure to tamp the wet concrete which resulted in exposed rock all sides of slab when forms removed. He had his labors com back next day and patched them. I am fairly sure there are a lot of air pockets in my footings.
