He told me the final payment check that wrote to him, I had incorrectly spelled his name wrong. I ended up writing him a 2nd check, and he tried to cash both checks, try to fraud me out of 2100.
Response by James Clifton General Contractor: When we asked for the replacement check, we deducted your stop payment fee of $35.00. We are not sure why your bank processed your stop payment check. We are not sure why my bank decided to post your check after 10 days. Your stop payment check posted Monday morning and 4 hours later, I found out what happened from this review . I called immediately and have left you two messages to resolve this by meeting you with a cashiers check to replace the bank error deposit.

I used James Clifton General to remodel my basement. The Job contracted for was to insure my basement would not have moisture issues. He provided me an estimate, a schedule, a detailed description of the people he was going to use, the quality of the work to be expected and his assurance he had knowledge of the product that was being installed. The only thing that was accurate was the money he charged. His work was shoddy. His workers-damaged material required for the job and did not replace it. He did not provide the robust crew of competent professionals he promised, most of the time only one person showed up with the wrong tools, no help and no guidance. The sad part this was one of his best people. They left my place a mess after work was done for the day. His crew clogged my toilet with human excrement and left it for my daughter to find and me to cleanup. The job took months instead of the two-week timeframe and it was left unfinished by my request. I just could not stand by while this circus played out. He flat-out lied to me about the people to be used, the work to be accomplished and the way he would make things right. These lies happened on a daily basis. After his people broke the screen on my door and it took him two weeks to have it repaired. I literally gave him money to go away. I do not want him to come anywhere near my house again. I will have my room fixed and completed by a reputable Contractor. This has been one of the worse experiences I have ever had with a contractor
Response by James Clifton General Contractor: Mr [Consumer name withheld at their request] I apologize for you feeling it necessary to write an emotional review of myself company posted on yelp, homeadvisor, BBB and I am sure many others. First of all, your time frame was never two weeks. I informed you that the material ordered from Connecticut had an approximate two week delivery time alone. The time frame for your job was delayed dramatically when you changed the scope of work in mid job after we had already installed 800 sq ft of acoustical ceiling. The job was changed by not mounting Everlast Walls by direct contact method as agreed but instead we were told to bring walls out 3 inches from wall to have recessed electrical behind the panels. This one change caused my company considerable time and effort to make the wall panels straight and plum as possible on an out of plum 9 feet tall concrete poured retaining wall. The personal attack on my crewman Darryl is also disturbing. Darryl clogged your toilet when the house was vacant and semi lived in and he also informed you about the clog. You waived him off saying you would fix it yourself at the end of day. The next issue you had with Darryl, was that your daughter overheard half his conversation complaining on his lunch break and reported it to you. We met together quickly, all three of us and Darryl apologized to you face to face in my presence. After this incident, I noticed multiple cabinet estimators giving you carpentry estimates for shelves and finish work. To say in your review that you paid us to leave is extremely inaccurate considering there was no more contract work to be done. The work you are referring to is Time and Material Custom Work in which you had received multiple bids for. The screen damage was unfortunate but was repaired by a license vendor who had a very busy summer schedule and got it back to us in two weeks. Considering there was an approximate 300 man hours on the job site, one screen damage was not too bad&
