I highly recommend James Dougherty Electric Inc. They handled all of the electrical work on my project involving a major home renovation extension, pool, and pool house, including a new panel, smart home integration, and extensive exterior lighting, and the quality of their work was outstanding. They have a strong command of both traditional electrical systems and modern smart home technology, and everything was executed with care, precision, and attention to detail. The team was professional, responsive, and easy to work with throughout, and they coordinated seamlessly with the other trades on a fairly complex project… and it is significant that they came out on a snowstorm on a holiday weekend to check electrical and internet outages did not cause damage. Pricing was very fair, and they were proactive in addressing issues and making sure everything was done right. The end result was both highly functional and thoughtfully designed. I recommend them without reservation.

I originally gave these folks a good review because they did solve the problem I was having with an external light fixture and outlet. I noted in my prior review that there was some confusion about whether the first visit was for a consult or to do the work. What has completely changed my opinion of them is their billing. They attempted to charge me a "Home Advisor Fee" of $31.90. I've used Home Advisor for other projects with great success, and have never seen or been charged (as far as I know) a Home Advisor Fee. When I inquired about it with the contractor, I received an email telling me that "Since you were unaware of the standard practice that the client is responsible to pay the Home Advisor fee, we will gladly waive that charge for you." I reached out to Home Advisor's customer support. They apologized and told me "We do not charge homeowner's for our service". They advised me to report my problem via the Ratings and Reviews system. What really annoys me is that in exchange for the "courtesy" of waiving the bogus Home Advisor Fee, this company asked me to up my rating of them! I'm so disappointed. I really liked the two gentlemen that figured out the problem, and the price for their work was indeed fair, but I will never use this company again.
