"Response from Haslett Handyman Company Thank you for the opportunity to respond. We take every concern seriously, and because this project is fully documented, we'd like to share the facts. This was a City of Lansing rental code-correction project on a property that - per the City's own inspection notice - had extensive pre-existing violations across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, smoke-detection, and structural systems, specifically including "decking boards deteriorated and burned from fire" and a kitchen "sink base floor missing completely." The home needed significant work to reach compliance. Before any work began, we provided a detailed, itemized written quote with every line tied to the City's correction list, totaling $1,200 ($840 labor + $360 materials), a transparent 50% / 50% payment schedule ($600 deposit, $600 on completion), and a 1-year labor warranty. The client reviewed it, signed it, and paid the deposit, and we performed the work. During the repairs, we found additional concealed damage that was not visible when the quote was written and was not part of the signed scope: 1. the bathroom floor was rotted and structurally unsound, requiring spacers to properly support the flooring; and 2. additional fire-damaged decking (the lower board) had burned through beyond the section in the quote and needed replacement for safety. Rather than proceed without approval, we stopped and notified the client, and we reached a written agreement (documented in text messages) to complete both additional items for a modest $230 - which the client approved in writing before we did the extra work. We completed the contracted repairs and the approved additional work. The City's follow-up notice reflects this: the fire-damaged deck boards, the smoke detectors throughout the home, the bathroom and kitchen GFI outlets, the toilet, and the tub are no longer listed as violations. The items that remain are predominantly outside a general handyman's scope - notably a furnace safety inspection report and a water-heater safety inspection report, which the City requires be completed and certified by a licensed, City-registered mechanical or plumbing contractor - along with items such as the missing kitchen sink base floor that were not part of our signed scope. We stand fully behind our work. If any item that was part of our original signed quote still needs attention, we will gladly return and make it right at no additional charge under our 1-year warranty. In turn, we simply ask that the client honor the $230 in additional work he agreed, in writing, to pay - work he requested and we completed in good faith. To date, that balance was paid several days late and left off entirely. Every statement above is backed by documentation - the signed quote, the client's written (text message) approval of the additional $230 in work, and the City of (NAME REMOVED) own inspection notices - all of which we are happy to provide. We remain glad to resolve this amicably and complete any warranty items promptly. - Haslett Handyman Company"
