Carpentry Framing - Install

We agreed on relocating a door, framing both sides, 2 steps a railing, close off the old entry, and reinstall shelving. All went well with the door, but when they installed the steps, they said the top step would be 1 higher than the door frame an obvious safety issue, this was unacceptable and had them look at how the decking was installed. They corrected the steps. At this point they said they were leaving and wanted to be paid in full and in cash. The inside framing was not done, railing was not done, and shelving was not done when I pointed this out, they said next time they would finish up, I did not feel comfortable to protest the unfinished work further and gave them the full amount. I believe because I am a senior female they felt I would accept this.
