John and his crew did a wonderful job replacing the roof on my front porch, which was in horrible shape and leaking. They were on-time, courteous and cleaned up well at the end of the day. Excellent customer service & I highly recommend their services.

I had longstanding issues with my roof leaking in two different places. John was quick to come assess the problem. The crew worked quickly and the job was done at the quoted price. Other roofers I tried to contact in the past were unreliable, so it was a relief John was responsive and the work quality looks good.

I hired this contractor to repair my roof (2019) after he claimed he knew what the problem was and would repair it. I also had him replace a skylight. My roof continues to leak in the same area every time we have a hard rain. Terrible work! I would not recommend him. I recently recently called him again... He claimed he is no longer in business. I found out that he still does business In this area. Bad work! I would not recommend this contractor!

I unfortunately hired this contractor to rebuild several omni stone retaining walls that were starting to bulge out. John and his dad came to see the areas and give me a quote. John repeatedly stressed what a great job his company does, how he has a reputation for professional work and when finished, I would be very happy with the job. I was assured that all chipped or broken stones would be replaced. NOT! I was assured the final wall would be cleaned and look like new. NOT! I was assured that I would be very happy with the wall once done. NOT ! None of his verbal promises were even close to being done. When they assumed the work was done, they got me out of bed to check things out . While I was doing a walk around, the father went into the hours telling my husband I was pleased with the work and requested the final payment. I was not pleased and was shocked that he had gotten the final payment. I asked for the check to be returned, however he made it clear that he would hold it until the next day. ????? My inspection detected multiple problems and an area that was already sinking..(this was replaced immediately), however it appears to be sinking again. The wall is a disappointment with many, many top stones very badly chipped, the spacing of the wall stones vary with irregular spacing and some areas with large spaces between stones, there are areas that I discovered that have NO support stones and the wall is built on just dirt, part of the wall was not replaced close to the bushes that the wall was to support, leaving large roots just hanging in the air. The area between the wall and the dirt was not replaced close enough and they left the space open with areas not filled from 8 to 14 inches. What am I supposed to do with this. I contacted John and he did come out to check the job. He said the wall was perfect and there was nothing to be done to fix it as there was nothing wrong. He walked around ? the wall before I came out and would not go with me to see my problem areas. He became very curt and confrontational and impossible to deal or reason with. I challenged his promise to have me happy with the final job. Finally he agreed to have his men come with dirt to fill in the big drop between the wall and the dirt . This never happened! I have spent quite a bit of time waiting for them to show up to do the work. I have called John multiple times and he tells me they would be coming Thurs. or Friday. Never happened despite him telling me this at least one three different occasions. I waited home...his word is not to be trusted. He is very unprofessional, curt, rude and unable to be truthful about anything. Please contact me via Facebook before agreeing to have him work for you. I feel we will be meeting in court. Stay away.

John is responsive and very easy to work with. His crew, led by Markus, were diligent, quick, polite, thorough, adept at their trade, took all proper safety precautions, and cleaned up well. Additionally, Markus took the time to show me and explain everything they found and repaired very well. The only reason I donâ t rate even higher, and may be my own doing, is Iâ m not sure the repaired damage was as significant as what was assumed in the estimate and I still paid the full contract amount. I should have asked.

John is a great contractor. He's quick to respond, and easy to work with. His team did a good job replacing my roof, and got it scheduled soon after first contacting them, even during a busy time. John stands by his work and made sure I was happy with the work, even after his team had left the house.

STAY AWAY! I had put a 5 star review initially; stating that everything was copacetic; however, this changed significantly when after only a month of repairs, the new chimney cap they installed was blown off in a storm. After only being installed over a month it shouldn t of blown off if it was installed properly. Second, my siding has started to separate in the corners. Animals have now made homes in these openings. I have called to have them fix the problem numerous times to no avail. John Sr is rude, very confrontational and all around unprofessional. The only thing I wanted was for them to fix the matter. Nothing has happened. DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE. 40k down the drain. Formal complaint made. We shall see.

Family owned business which I like. John is always accessible and accommodating. We have had several projects done in the past by them. Each time, they are very professional, clean and always finish on or ahead of schedule. This last project, our driveway and walkway. Turned out awesome!!! It changed the whole look of our home.

They replaced four skylights in the living room. The installers were thoroughly professional and cleaned up well afterwards. The job was complete about a year ago and the skylights are fine, no leaks. This last fall (2019) , I needed substantial repairs to the series of steps to my front porch, so I called John again. A different crew came out, but they were as competent, polite and thorough as the skylights crew. The new steps are in, and they look and seem solid.

At our first meeting, John prided himself on telling me about their family owned business and that they provide quality work and excellent customer service. The job I needed done involved replacing all of the gutters and downspouts at my home. The job was done in February 2018. Since the time of the installment, the gutter on the back of my home constantly drips on to my back patio. I informed John of this immediately. Here it is, October 2018, the problem still exists. I received a text on 10/27/18 stating the problem had been corrected only to come home to find a large piece of metal flashing shoved under my shingles supposedly to guide the water toward the gutter. Water going into the gutter was never the problem. The problem is that there is no downward pitch to the down spout. There was never a problem with water flowing to the gutter. However, it just lays there because there is no downward pitch to the gutter toward the down spout. When it rains now, the flashing shoots the water directly over the gutter on to my porch. I called John to speak with him about this and he had a terrible attitude and blamed it on my shingles. My shingles are not the problem, but rather a gutter that was installed with zero pitch therefore causing the water to lay in the gutter at the end cap and constantly drip on my porch. I sent pictures to John with a level showing that there is no pitch and he didn't even have the courtesy to respond. I completely understand that mistakes happen, but come back and fix the problem you created properly. There is no hope that John will come back to correct the installation error. John's response is to blame the roofer who installed my shingles. Mind you, I never had a drip prior to the installation of the new gutters. Blaming others for your error is very unflattering. You'd be much more respectable if you owned your installation error and came back to fix it properly. I am so disappointed. John himself never came to look at the problem but was quick to blame the roofer who installed the shingles 4 years ago. Again...never had a problem with water entering the gutter or dripping before the installation of the new gutters. Because of this, I would not recommend John Gentilcore for any project at your home. He is quick to collect your check, but will not return to fix his mistake.

Simple tips I got from a great source and applicable to many contractors, including this one: 1. Be careful to get everything in writing in the proposal. 2. You may need to manage the project closely to ensure everything is completed properly and according to the written proposal. 3. Like any project, hire an inspector before last payment if your feel it is necessary (I had to). 4. Expect push back on every item questioned, but don't back down, as you are the customer. 5. After the battle is done you may feel like you have lost the war (at least I did), but the roof will be done. 6. Great working team, but just needing a reasonable site manager. 7. I only wish we had Young John on site 100% with his team and I would have given them higher rating!!!!!
Response from John Gentilcore
"Hello Tim and Home Advisors, We apologize for any inconvenience or any miscommunication in the hope that young John would be on site all day throughout the project. He and the company are always a phone call away and he is always available through his cell phone if there are any issues that may arise or any concerns that you and any customer may need addressed. We are happy the job is completed and done properly, which we were contracted to do, and we pride ourselves with over 50 years of experience and expertise."
