Jones Brother's Floor Service - Unlicensed Contractor

First $350 seemed high to remove and replace 4 cracked ceramic tiles. I accepted the quote because I thought he was going to fix some stains on my marble shower walls. He did not have all the necessary tools to do the job. I loaned him a power tool to remove the grout and he later had to go out and buy a cutting blade to cut tiles. After he finished he pointed out that the tiles were not all flush as the concrete slab was not level. He also noted that he chipped several existing tiles, but said the grout should hide them. He mentioned that he would normally return the next day to grout, but would probably do it now. I agreed to do the grout work on my own. He provided the grout and gave me the tile cutting blade. Regarding the shower walls, he said he was afraid to proceed as any sanding of the stains may make it worse. After he departed I noticed he had sliced the baseboard, probably while marking a tile for cutting. Additionally, while he did do some cleanup, tile, and chipped away thin-set was all over the work area and in adjacent rooms. Also, I was not happy with how much one tile was sticking up. I decided it was unacceptable, a possible tripping hazard. On my own, I removed the tile, leveled the concrete, and put in a new tile. With the one exception, the tiles he did replace were properly cut and installed. He used ample adhesive to secure each tile. In hindsight, I should have handled it myself.

Leon did a wonderful job solving a challenging problem with a floor in my fifty-plus year old adobe home. He is very knowledgeable and easy to communicate with. I highly recommend him.
