Kennebec River Paint Company

I hired Kennebec River Paint Company to paint two exterior sides of my house, two dormers and all the exterior trim. Kennebec River Paint company is the most unprofessional operation I have ever had the misfortune to hire. Work was originally supposed to commence on July 20th, but started on August 20th One of the painters, without authorization or permission, while we were gone, entered the house to use the upstairs bathroom (there is a downstairs bathroom), leaving sunglasses behind. Painters denied having entered the house Next day one of the painters admitted to having entered the house Paint was spilled nearly the length of one garden bed sometime on Friday (Ben was on site this day) - no one on the painting crew came to tell us about the incident. I discovered the spill after the crew had left. Still no mention over the weekend or on Monday In all I asked the owner, Benjamin Day, 5 questions and/or requests - examples; could the broken trim be repaired, is it traditional to paint over mold, can the crew tarp more effectively. This question was the last straw for the owner and he packed up and left. This job is not even half complete, but he has collected over half the money. As he was leaving he told me that his lawyer said he should come after me for the remainder of the payment. That was when I walked away from the conversation. The paint job is horrible. The trim looks as if sanded with 80 grit paper only (or worse) paint is splattered all over the granite stone entry way, mahogany decking, windows and one entire garden with spilled paint on ornamental evergreens and other gardens are trampled. They did no clean up and paint chips are everywhere. They only painted one coat on one side of the house, and never got to the other side and trim is incomplete. This is the worst paint job. There was nothing good about this encounter.

Wow, these guys delivered! They operate on a time and materials basis--which works well because Ben is a top-notch communicator. We checked in every step of the way and Ben always gave us options to modify the plan. He explained his work in detail and was happy to get into the hows and whys if we were interested. He, his wife Joanna, Jim, and Joel are all super efficient, conscientious and kind. We live in a large c. 1850s house that needed some serious exterior love. Last summer we watched Ben's crew do meticulous work on several neighbor's houses and everyone ended up happy. So we hired Ben to do some emergency patch work on our barn (repairing a gutter and repainting). His people were on it and done in no time and we knew we wanted to get in line for this year! They are especially good on clean up. And Jim did some really tough work on a cupola that is leg-shakingly high in the sky! We are so happy to see our house looking so sharp. The work they did on the dental details makes them pop. I can't think of a single complaint. Ben even had us do a walk around on their wrap day to point out anything they might have missed or we had questions about. We found one small area that needed another coat and they were on it. That easy. It feels so good to do justice to the craftsmen who worked on this place 170+ years ago. Ben and crew just gave their woodwork another 20-30 year lease on life. We are happy to sing KRPC's praises because although we spent a good chunk of money, the pricing was appropriate, we saw how hard they worked, and the work itself is meticulous. Plus: It was a painless process with people we felt good about being around our kids. All the value was there and then some! Good people.

The company met a tight schedule and completed the project timely. We are very pleased with the quality of their work.

Ben & crew scraped, primed and painted the exterior of my 1850's home. They replaced clapboards that had rotted. They did an incredible job! I called Ben when I needed some calci-coat ceiling scraped, repaired and painted. I sold the house -- it lasted less than a week on the market -- a lot of the credit goes to Kennebec for the great job they did.

Ben and his crew did one fine job on my home. They paid attention to every detail and when they found some rot Ben got his brother Billy(an excellant carpenter) to repair it at a very resonable price. I truly mean it when I rate them five stars

I hired Ben and his crew without knowing anything about his business. At our initial consultation he seemed like he knew his stuff. As a bathroom remodeling contractor I have no business being up on a roof! They showed up on time, finished on schedule and left my yard and driveway thoroughly swept and cleaned up. A fair price, Ben quoted some painting work which my wife and I will have done this spring. His crew was polite, tidy and NONSMOKERS! Would definitely hire again.

When hiring out jobs we use to do in our youth, we look for the three “Ps,” promptness, politeness and professionalism. We recently hired the Kennebec River Paint Company to scrape, caulk and paint an exterior sash and gutter three stories up. Our phone inquiry was answered by the owner and supervisor, Ben, and an estimate visit was scheduled for the next day. When an unexpected transportation issue came up, Ben phoned us apologetically and rescheduled the appointment for the next morning….prompt and polite. A reasonable estimate ensued for a date 3 days later…..VERY prompt. The ladders, paint and supplies were delivered to the site the evening before the work day, and painters were introduced….professionalism. The crew of two arrived on time and ready to work…promptness. We offered water, beverages, bathroom access and a place for a break and scenic lunch, which were accepted with gratitude and graciousness…politeness. The men worked diligently while completing the job, and cleaned up paint scrapings and equipment before they left for the day….professionalism. We would recommend The Kennebec River Paint Company to anyone seeking a professional exterior painting project for their house or business. We score them an A in promptness, in professionalism and in politeness. The added bonus “P,” was the fact that Ben was a former “pupil” of mine during his elementary school years. It is gratifying to live in a community where you can see your students grow into successful business owners and entrepreneurs.
