Carpet - Install
$3,000
Where to begin? Please note that this project is ongoing, despite the scope of work not being the most complex in nature. We have had a very difficult experience with Kent and his company. We originally contacted him in late February when acquiring bids for a carpet installers and hardwood floor refinishing. His prices were reasonable and he was friendly and attentive. While the carpet project was not expected to be ready by mid/late summer, Kent informed us that he also did tile work, which we needed complete in two bathrooms and our kitchen. He began the work in early July and did not finish until mid August (over 45 days for a relatively small project in which all tiling materials were purchased before he was hired). During this time, he continued to give us excuses e.g. his phone stopped working or he didn't have all the supplies. Other times when I texted, he advised he was heading back to the hardware store - which he did very frequently. When he finally finished the work, there were a number of areas where the tiling did not line up cleanly, the floor is no longer level, and recommendations he made did not look as good as advertised, such as not using an edge tile trim. During this time, my contractor had subcontracted portions of his masonry work to Kent, including a fireplace mantle and two exterior pillars. These projects both began in mid-August and to date are still not complete. The workmanship on the partially completed pillar and the mantle both leave something to be desired. There are large gaps, which Kent advised would be grouted in, which also to date have not been. There were also a number of times when we asked him if he was going to be working on our house to finish this project, here are a few directly quoted texts from just last week: [9/08/18]: "I'll be there in an hour. Thank you" (I texted him back four hours later) [9/08/18 when asked if he was coming on a day] "Yes I am coming and there is no reason to not have this completed for you. I'll make sure it is finished and cleaned up outside. If you still would like me to finish up the mantel today I can do that as well" (no show) [9/10/18] "I'll be by today I'll let you know when I'm done." (no show, no response until next day ) [9/11/18] "Driving now. Be there in 20 minutes" (no show). With regards to the carpet install, Kent continuously promised to meet deadlines that were never achieved. He tried to drive an hour north to receive payment for services that he never performed, including a time when he sent photos of the carpet not fully tacked down and full of ripples. After several back and forth exchanges, and going through each carpeted room individually, we deemed his work acceptable. Ultimately, I would not recommend this vendor. While our kitchen backsplash and one bathroom is tiled nicely, our carpet is adequately installed, we still have a strangely tiled bathroom with an uneven tiled floor and a mantle and front porch that are not c

Carpet Repair, Refasten, or Stretch
This was a disaster from the start!!! Kent showed up on March 31st. He delayed our appointment by saying his phone was not working. I had reservations about hiring him but felt I should give him a chance. First red flag - he had to hand write a contract because he didn’t have any forms on him. I gave him a check for 20% down and then didn’t see him or hear from him for days. He wouldn’t respond to anything. When he finally responded he said his wife’s brother was in ICU, on life support and was going to pass away any time. Finally he showed back up and started on the laminate flooring. Second red flag - we had to tell him which direction it should be laid. He kept hitting us for money because he and his crew were hungry. So we supplied food in the house. We bought plywood to even out the floor in the dining room. We bought baseboard and even a nail gun because his was broken. He kept pushing me for payment - and once I paid him he was gone. All in all - the laminate was uneven, the carpet laid in different directions and a patch by the entry into the family room was put there after it was laid. What should have taken 7 - 10 days took over a month. I hung in there because it was too late to fire him. He made a big mess that had to be fixed. I’ve had to hire a new contractor who has had to tear up the laminate and it will have to be relaid. Kent didn’t use the plywood we bought but used some other lousy pieces of wood for sub flooring. The baseboard had to be replaced, he used a staple gun and calk to attach it. It literally fell off. The carpet has to be relaid and replaced because it was laid in different directions. He even missed a vent outlet. This has cost me $1700 in replacement materials and to this day over $1200 in new contractor labor and several house payments I wasn’t planning to make. All I wanted to do was get my house on the market. Finally, he wouldn’t come back to face me to return the key. Kent is no where to be found, I have since discovered many items missing from my property since he began working there. He totally took all the extra materials and tools from the house. The new contractors say they have never seen anything like it and this kind of work is an embarrassment and gives their craft a bad name. Kent n’ Tac LLC should be removed from any list.....they are unreliable, unethical and took advantage without any remorse.

Hired on Sunday 1/28/18, and scheduled for them to come out on Monday at 4pm. Both Kent and Christie H came out, but did not show up until around 7pm. The excuse was that traffic was bad, which I can understand so I didn't think much of it. Kent worked until after midnight. I had provided pizza since it was well past lunch and didn't think they had anything for dinner. After the stretching was done, Kent took a sample of some carpet we needed about a 6ft x 4ft section replaced due to hair dye stain/spill from the weekend. We made plans for them to come back out at 4pm Tuesday. They didn't get here until almost 8pm. My wife informed me that Christie had told her they were late because she had court. I had Kent go ahead and remove the area of carpet to be replaced and pull out carpet from an unused closet so we could get a close match. We made plans for them to return 3:45pm Wednesday with the carpet we picked out from some Home Depot samples, and to put in the carpet he pulled from the closet. Christie spent the time slumped over on my couch, my kids looking at her and worrying that something is wrong with her. Wednesday.. 3:45pm came and went. At 5:48pm he sent me a text saying he was on his way. Mind you, they're only about 30 minutes away from us. At 7:51pm he sent a text saying Christie didn't feel well, so he wasn't coming. I admonished him and said "I need to know if you aren't going to make it on time. Preferably not 4 hours after the fact. This is 3 days now we have made plans around being available on agreed upon times, and never met. I'll see you tomorrow". Thursday, he texts at 5:43pm saying "Be there soon". Then sends me a couple pictures of carpet at 8:55pm asking if those would work. I replied, "No idea. Hard to tell in pictures. If it looks fairly close to the sample then it's fine. I don't see getting it tonight, kids are going to bed downstairs. What happened with the home depot one?" He replied to say it was the closest sample he could find that didn't cost 4.50/sqft (despite us already approving a previous sample). Then he claimed there was a misunderstanding, that Christie said she had been in touch with us and we "were expecting a late night". That was entirely false, and I advised him that neither my wife nor I had been in touch with anyone but him. I told him that at this point we just want the carpet done (no more efforts on re-stretching that he was going to re-do from the first night), and that "If it can be finished tonight then I'll get up. If not, if another time is missed then we're done here". He apologized, and advised "I'll see you tomorrow at 4 no bullshit". I replied, "We'd prefer 4 since everyone is mostly settled or already in bed. It's another early morning for us." and he said "Alright ill see you then no b.s.". Queue Friday. At 5:05pm (already over an hour late) says "Okay ill be there in 45 min. See you soon. Thanks". At 7:00pm I said, "We're done waiting, don't worry about coming out
