we gutted and remodeled a 2300SF basement. We'd agreed on alot of higher end custom work with our architect, and needed to make sure we found the right outfit. We interviewed and took bids from four GC's. LG was not the least expensive,(but well under the top) but the most thorough in their bid and discussions of how to execute top quality custom work. LG had done other jobs with us from installing a large generator, re-building our front porch to building closets. As busy as they can be, they are always responsive and take great care and pride in their work. The craftsmanship is as good as it gets. The communication, scheduling and time/action commitments are real. The transparency in reporting and costing is outstanding. You will be confident you are being fairly treated, which can be tricky sometimes. LG is so solid on every front, I will never use a different GC. He's got our business as long as we are around. Integrity, high end quality, transparency. I would recommend LG for everything from a few days of handiman work to building a large high end custom home and everything in between. Go with Lyman.

After obtaining several quotes I hired LG to remodel my small fiberglass shower, to enlarge it and to transform into an accessible, no threshold entry. I chose LG because the price they quoted was very reasonable compared to 2 of the other bids I received, and because they were the only 1 of the 4 who promised to be able to make the shower barrier free...and they did. I appreciated Casey's ideas for the project, the tile work that Victor and Nikita did and Linda's daily calls to keep me informed of the progress of the job and to make sure I was satisfied. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Our ceiling had bad water damage and damaged our hallway. We called LG, they repaired it over several days as they had to replace sheet rock and apply several coats of paint. Looks brand new, very nice people to work with. Prompt and on-time, sent an experienced carpenter. Thank you!

I want to thank Lyman and the LG Building team for all the hard work they put in on my remodeling project. After sustaining extensive flood damage to my kitchen and bathroom (located in Southbury, CT), I contracted LG Building in the Spring of 2019 to help me with the rebuilding process. From start to finish, they helped me navigate the difficult process (including working with my insurance company) and assisted me through changes to project scope as the planning continued. Though a home remodeling project is not an easy thing to go through (especially when insurance is involved!), they addressed all of my concerns and left me with an absolutely beautiful kitchen and 1st-floor bathroom. From a great sales team (nice work Ron) to an excellent and attentive office staff (thank you Linda and Cristin) and a highly-skilled carpentry team (shout outs to Lyman for the hard work with planning and execution, and Casey for ensuring the project was wrapped up beautifully), I cannot thank them enough. I will use it again in the future and highly recommend it to others. I am not one to go out of my way and write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so after seeing a recent negative review. In this day and age, all too often the bad is emphasized, and good work is left unacknowledged. While I cannot speak for anyone else, I want to stress again what an excellent experience I had personally. Remodeling projects are not easy, and not everything goes according to plan. I would recommend LG Building and Remodeling because they were able to weather the bumps with me, and as long as I was willing to reach out and talk to them, they were able to work with me. The quality of work exceeded expectations, and the process itself is far better than I have ever had with any other remodeling company.

We contracted with LG for a one-room extension (only). The scope was fairly simple, as plumbing and gas were NOT included in this project. Due to the company s negligence, lack of accessibility and disorganization, the project encountered numerous issues that led to insurmountable delays. The contract indicated a 120-day timeline, this project took an unacceptable seven months to complete. Some examples of LG s dereliction include: 1. Ineffective subcontractors. Three of them (gutters, flooring, mason) were replaced after extended periods of haplessness. 2. Lyman Gilbert, the principal of LG, was constantly unavailable or unreachable while issues occurred on-site. Lyman was on vacation often throughout the project and did not return calls or texts. 3. Re-work was constant, leading to further delays. 4. The subcontractors that did complete work were rude and lacked integrity. 5. LG lacks expertise in several areas, most importantly HVAC. I have never filed a complaint like this before but LG s performance was so egregiously unsatisfactory, I feel compelled to warn others before they commit to a similarly dysfunctional project. I regret choosing LG for this project and would like to warn both prospective clients and architects against using LG in the future. The frustration and hardship inflicted on my family due to LG s negligence will leave scars for the foreseeable future. Instead of enjoying the new addition to our house we will instead be reminded of LG s flagrant futility and mistreatment.
Response from Company:
I would first like to thank you for taking the time to write a review. We do take customer feedback seriously and are always looking to improve. I would also like to thank you for paying in full for the project. I would not categorize your single room addition as a simple project. Any job that requires bent steel beams being set in with a crane as well as tying in several different roof lines is not simple. The beginning of the project was plagued with an uncharacteristically wet Spring which, coupled with the clay-based soil conditions, made it difficult to get the foundation in quickly. I had hoped that we would be able to make up the time, but it was not possible. Although we have not had issues with our subcontractors in the past, we did find it necessary to replace some subcontractors as you mentioned. The flooring contractor is the only one that extended the timeline, and he was replaced in one week when we recognized the problem. Previously, we have not had complaints about our subcontractors or craftsmen being rude, and we have looked into this and taken appropriate action. During the course of the project, I, personally, did have several planned family trips, but I am not the only staff of LG. LG has office and field staff that are available should any issues arise during my absence. If something is urgent, I have always suggested that customers call as I do not consider texts and email late in the evening or over the weekend emergencies. I do not agree with a lack of expertise on LGs part. We were hired to do the project which came out extremely well; moreover, we were hired to do additional work at the end of the project which included the HVAC. (The HVAC installation was challenged by the homeowner, and we had an independent HVAC engineer come out to review the installation and the equipment. He confirmed that the installation was correct and what was expected per the estimate that was provided and agreed to.) The customers experience during the construction process is very important to us, and I am sincerely sorry that you were unhappy with the process of your project. LG appreciates your feedback, and we will continue to work to improve our customer experience. We truly hope that you enjoy the lovely addition to your home for many years to come.

There workmanship is not what they express, I hired them to do some major renovations at my house and in six weeks the only thing completed is the roof. They were to repair areas of rot on the house and replace the installation only to find out they left wet insulation in the wall and covered rotted areas. Yesterday 4/20/19 during a down pouring rain I noticed water pouring into the house from a area where we close a sky light and around both chimneys. Which means they did not flash around the chimney among other things. Needless to say a fired them. I would like to should the pictures and videos of this company at work so you can see this company at work. I am beyond frustrated with this company and will keep you up-to-date as to how fast they came back to repair there mistakes on the roof they completed. GAF certified is what the owner told me.
Response from Company:
We completely understand that you are upset about your roof leaking. Our office staff received the information this morning and we have immediately scheduled a meeting with the homeowner for this afternoon to discuss and remedy the situation. This meeting, occurring today, includes our roofing installer as well as project manager who are meeting to solve the problem. In addition to the roof, extensive rot repair was required before further work could be done. Pending other decisions to be made, we have been performing this necessary rot repair work. We, too, have documented our work on this project. Delays in decision making regarding siding and windows, as well as frequent changes to original scope of work, have resulted in delays in overall completion of the project. These changes require verification and approval from the bank, and we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. We will continue to work with you to remedy the roof situation in a timely manner, and we wish the homeowners all the best in their future endeavors.

Lyman was a pleasure to work with through the entire process. The project was completed promptly and on budget - we were extremely happy with the quality of the completed work.
