We hired M and A Home Improvement LLC to build a crawl space foundation and assemble a cabin from a kit. Marcos claimed that he had extensive building experience and his work was high quality. We gave him a substantial deposit to begin work. After 3 months of excuses and shoddy work we terminated the contract. He potentially spent 15% of our deposit on our job and will not refund any amount. We were scammed. DO NOT HIRE. I have file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. We applied for the building permit ourselves and Marcos knew remarkably little about required documentation given the experience he claimed to have. It took 36 days after the building permit was issued for work to begin. A perimeter trench was dug for the foundation footers even though a 4 foot crawl space requires complete excavation of the hole, not just the perimeter. Marcos recommended a monolithic pour rather than a block foundation and over 2 months into the contract was still unable to get the forms needed. A contractor with experience would have known where to get the needed forms. The inspection office clarified that a perimeter dig was not sufficient to pour the footers so 36 days after the perimeter excavation, the entire hole was excavated. Marcos had 3 pallets of Quikcrete concrete delivered to the work site and planned to mix the footer concrete himself. He never considered how many days it would take to do this or that footers need to be completed in one pour. 3 months into the contract Marcos laid a vapor barrier topped with gravel. The footer forms had not been installed and no inspections completed. A preliminary search on how to build foundations confirmed that Marcos was clearly not doing it correctly. The foundation perimeter was never marked and the excavated area was 6 feet too short. At this point, we requested that all work stop. We were deceived by a man who spins a good story but does not have the experience to back it up or even the ability or motivation to acquire the knowledge he is lacking. His work was sloppy and he has walked away with a large sum of money that he has spent but never earned. Check and call references before hiring anyone - M and A has some good reviews, but from what I have seen, they can not be legitimate. A competent contractor should be able to answer all your questions in detail and if not, you should look elsewhere.

Marcos did a full kitchen remodel, from backsplash down to the flooring. I am very happy with the work and will be hiring him for an addition in the near future.
