If we could give 0 stars, we would. Jose Ruiz (*JR*) is part salesman, part handyman (though not good at it), and all con man. He fancies himself as a visionary designer and do-it-all craftsman, but he is a fraud. Our experience with him was awful. JR did not show up on days he said he would and did not show up on time. There were days he called in the morning to say he would be at our home in the afternoon, but never showed up. There were days, we believe, JR smelled of marijuana. When I asked him about work that was done differently than we had discussed, he blamed his employee and said his employee did not listen to him. Also, because he knew we recently moved in the house, he looked up the purchase price and, I believe, looked into what we did for our jobs in order to charge us more. JR talks a lot (see statement about being a salesman and con man) but, other than making excuses, does not have much useful to say. JR refused to provide a written estimate at the start of his work and refused to provide a written itemization of the cost of the work or materials, even after we had paid him thousands of dollars. He provided an oral estimate of $6,000 to tile our floors. Because he quoted us a price below another estimate and promised to take care of us, we had him do the work before we realized his work was not satisfactory. When he was approximately 80% done with the work, he said the price was going to be $14,000-16,000 due to the cost of the materials he needed to level the floor and increased labor. We learned from a tiler that he should have used a self-leveling underlayment to level the floor, but chose to use Duroc, mortar, and our new tile. Even so, the Duroc should cost less than $1,000 and the cost of the mortar was so much because he improperly used about 3 times the amount needed. Even though we bought extra tile, before Masters Touch finished the 2 main rooms, we had to buy more tile because JR used new tile to level the floor. The job was so bad that we are going to have to start over, buy new tile, and pay someone to remove the tile even though it will cost a significant amount to do so. the work is sub-standard. This is what other professionals told us. One group of tilers said the job was *bad* and *unprofessional* due to numerous deficiencies. A 2nd group rated the work as 2 out of 10. A builder described JRs exterior work as *terrible* because of the haphazard manner in which JR nailed wood and for his failure to use flashing. He caused damage to our house, including: extra holes in our wall for the mirror he hung, hardwood floor that had its finish removed, paint ripped off walls, cracked wood flooring, clogged vents and drains by putting cement and mortar in them. JR did not finish projects he started and for which he was paid, even though he had months to do so before we fired him. We had garbage outside our house for weeks before the police made him take it. I have holes in walls outside and inside my house and stone that was not re-attached because JR did not complete the work. He called this work easy peasy and promised to complete it, but never did. We will have to pay someone else to complete JR s work. JRs *work* will cost us more money to fix the problems he caused. We called the police before we fired JR and after he started to threaten me on the phone. Our house had some issues with rotted wood. JR called the house a *sh**ty house*, but it is much worse after he worked on the house than it was before he touched it. JR thinks he has a masters touch and was adding value to the house. In reality, he was worse than an amateur, he was incompetent. He over-charged for shoddy work and did not complete work for which he was paid. Our house is much worse after having Masters Touch touch it.
