In October 2023 I solicited bids to replace the wood on a second floor balcony. Mr. Ordonez of Maxtor Decks came to see the balcony and we discussed the project in detail. I made it clear that All wood except for the supports was to be replaced. I received a bid that stated â whole balcony replace the railing and decking boardsâ â ¦ I assumed this statement meant that the work would be done as we had discussed. It didnâ t mean that at all â it meant that the bottom boards that are attached to the supporting beams would NOT be replaced. This wood is almost 40 years old. Mr. Renato Cruz and a helper came by and did the work in 4.5 hours. Renato gave me a business card that stated â Decks R Cruz Construction and Paintingsâ and his number (240-338-4253). Renato is/was associated with â Colorrama Painting.â He told me he would paint the deck for $400, which was cheaper than Maxtor would charge. He also gave me a quote to replace my fence. The quality of the work on the balcony was horrible. The nails used were larger than necessary and numerous balusters were split due to this. Also, there were two or three balusters that were not nailed at the bottom. In addition, the top â plateâ boards (the horizontal boards that one would rest food or drink on) had rough and noticeable deep craters where the nails entered. Iâ ve discussed these problems with Mr. Ordonez and he first said that it would probably take some time to get the repairs done. Then he stated (I had told him I had another identical balcony that had to have the same work done â but later on) that he could do the corrections as they did the other balcony (pay me for the other balcony and Iâ ll correct the bad work then). In total I think we had about a dozen emails exchanged. We also had one telcon and I left a couple of voicemails and an email saying Iâ d appreciate a call back to discuss the situation further. No Response. Their phone line is such that you almost always have to leave a voicemail. I was able to talk to Renato and he said heâ d come one Saturday at noon â no call, no show. I talked to him again and he said heâ d be there on Sunday at 11:30 am â no call, no show. I emailed this statement to Maxtor and Miguel O. called me and said he was in charge of the problem and said he would come on Saturday and fix the issue. I received an email saying he couldnâ t come and would call me on Monday to reschedule. This is Wednesday â no call or email.

The work was highly professional and excellent. Miguel was responsive, helpful, explained the work that needed to be done thoroughly and patiently. The work was completed in a very timely manner, beyond our expectations. Thank you!

Updated from 5 to 3.5 stars. Found a few small items that were incomplete (missing trim around sprinkler head, missing vent to the mechanical room, etc...). Reached out to resolve issues. Miguel kindly responded that the issues would be resolved. He is no longer answering my calls or texts. Very honest, reliable, and reasonably priced. They finished the job 4 weeks earlier than projected and in the budget. Miguel was an absolute pleasure to work with and has good judgment. He and his team did the right thing anytime there was a question. For example, I forgot to ask for a light in the walk-in closet but they put one in because it made sense. I will be hiring him again and highly recommend Miguel and his team for any major project. He can literally do anything.

Maxtor did great work, quickly and at a reasonable price. I'm very happy with them and would not hesitate to hire them again.

I bought a very damaged home at the beginning of December and I hired Miguel and his team to fix most of the things like dry wall, painting, flooring and every other details. I am very critical about two things in a contractor, how they maintain the schedule and keeping the promise they make. I can happily say that Miguel is a good person and he made me happy with the two things. He is very reasonable in price too. He worked with me little over a month and the house is ready for living again. There were other contractors for appliances, HVAC and electrical but he was with me almost every day. He is very accessible and I will recommend him for house work. I will hire him again once I will have similar work.
