Joe Madigan of McCools and Sons HVAC started a project on my house in September 2021. After a third of the way through the job, he claimed he needed me to pay almost the entire balance to get the HVAC equipment or 'you will get nothing' - his words. Under this threat, I reluctantly paid him the amount. That night he sent me a text saying the equipment was not in stock. He never returned to finish the job, even after I confirmed equipment was in stock.. I have had open holes in my ceiling where the vents are supposed to go for months. I have nothing to show for the $24,000 I paid him. He blocked my phone number.. I do not understand all these 5 star reviews, he treated me like absolute garbage. I do not recommend anyone do business with him. You will be very sorry.

Joe and team installed a ductless mini-split system for my entire house. Joe responded very quickly after my request for a quote, and also with all the information required by the town for a permit. He and his team finished installing 2 outdoor and 6 indoor units in 1.5 days, just in time for 80+ weather days. I was very pleased throughout the entire process, and am now enjoying a cool and quiet home (no more loud and heavy window AC units!). Joe's price was also very competitive. I would recommend his company.

Joe was very responsive and made time to give an estimate right away. His quote was competitive and in line with others we received. He and his team were professional and completed our install in over the course of two days. They were efficient and left no trace when they were done. I am looking forward to using the system once the warmer weather arrives.

Stop he never cod anything electric wasnt certified! 2022 unreponsive to calls.

Fast and very accommodating. Took quick care of my parents problem.

I requested a 100% refund because the work done did not solve the problem, he used the wrong parts, charged 750 for an 80 dollar part.

The project was excellent . They show up on time ,very professional and knowledgeable and most of all very clean. Finished the project ahead of schedule. I highly recommend them.

The worst contractor Ive ever hired , disrespectful, lying, demands money when not due to him, does not show up, has delayed my job two months,do not hire him, you will be sorry, I know I made a huge mistake by hiring this company

Great bunch of guys! Joe is a smooth salesman. But his operation is not competent or trustworthy. I paid them to install complete new HVAC system with oil furnace and oil water heater. They installed equipment that they were not trained or certified on. They selected and installed a Bosch heat pump that wouldn't work at the temperatures it needs to in New York as they said it would. That left the house freezing when it got cold outside. No one at McCool's would respond to service calls, texts, or emails. The electrostatic air filter was the wrong size and installed upside down and backwards. They didn't insulate the pipes. The evaporator coil unit leaks. Didn't install the UV light. Did not honor the service agreement. So it's costing me more to fix their work than their upfront cost. As I said, a great bunch of guys. I wonder how carefully this company was "screened". As they say "HomeAdvisor Services are provided to you on an "AS IS" basis without any warranty whatsoever, and your sole and exclusive remedy, and HomeAdvisor's sole obligation to you or any third party for any claim arising out of your use of the HomeAdvisor Services or the HomeAdvisor or apps, is that you are free to discontinue your use of the HomeAdvisor Services". Based on my experience, his five star reviewers must be either very lucky or phony.

If I could give them a ZERO rating I would. DO NOT USE THEM. I WILL BE SUING THEM. I hired this company based on the 5-star reviews on this site Work was done in mid-April 2020. The job was to remove the air handler in our attic and replace it with a new one. The cost was just under $6,000. The air handler was installed so incompetently that, a few months later we were required to have another company come in and completely remove the McCools handler and reinstall a new one properly. Here is just a short list of some of McCools screw-ups: 1. They wired the system backward - causing it to called for hot water which heated (not cooled) the air. 2. When we called McCools back to address item 1 , they failed to spot the backward wiring, and instead charged us an additional $550 for an unnecessary damper replacement. 3. Even after we had another company fix the wiring, the system still did not cool. 4. The air handler they brought to replace our old one did not fit through the opening in our attic, so they took the new machine apart and butchered it in the process. The parts were so bent and mangled that we could not even slide in the air filter b/c the channel was so mangled. 5. They gerry-riged the new handler line up with the existing duct work in our attic. Rather than using sheet metal or other suitable material, they used CARDBOARD with TIN FOIL taped on. I paid them $6,000 for cardboard and tin foil. 6. Their braze joints were sloppy and the system leaked refrigerant to such an extent that it required refilling at least 3 times in just a couple of months. 7. The air handler that I paid them $6,000 to install NEVER actually worked. Not once. It never blew cold air. Not once. 8. We had 3 separate HVAC companies come out to look at the system to try to fix it during April, May and June. All three said the system was incompetently installed and advised that it needed to be completely replaced and redone properly. All three. 9. When I approached Joe Madigan at McCools, he refused to take ownership of the shoddy work or to make it right. Instead, he claimed he is a 5-star company and accused the other companies I brought in to try to fix McCools errors of trying to deceive me by claiming the system had to be replaced. 10. But this begs the question: why was the McCool system blowing HOT rather than cold air? Why was it wired backwards? Why was the system bent and mangled beyond recognition? Why was it leaking refrigerant like a popped balloon? Why was there CARDBOARD and TIN FOIL in a system I paid $6,000 to have installed? These questions answer themselves. I cannot understand how McCools has gotten 5-star reviews. Their work warrants a 0 rating. Since removing the McCools air handler and replacing it with a new (properly installed) air handler, (at add $6k cost to me), our a/c system worked FLAWLESSLY for the entire summer. Obviously, the problem was that McCools work was incompetent. AVOID THIS COMPANY. They will screw up and then not make it right.

Joe and his team of professional technicians put in a new boiler at a very fair price as well as a great service plan and warranty incl. A very clean & efficient job that I m very happy with. I highly recommend the Coolest heating & AC company in the Westchester/Putnam area, McCool s and Son.

Hired Joe and his crew to replace water heater. He beat all of the other estimates I had gotten and was able to fit me in to the schedule for the next day. Very nice to work with, friendly and professional.

Hired Joe and his crew to install split units. They did a very good job and overcame some unexpected complications to make it work. Happy to recommend.

Great value and workers were excellent. After many weeks I am still waiting for Joe to send me an invoice. He left it at the property, which is a rental and is not my residence and I have contacted him repeatedly to send me the invoice. So I thought the work done was very professional, but Joe is sloe!! If I ever get my invoice, I would say the value was a 5.

Replaced My aging boiler without incident - came the next day to make sure it was working as promised. Very nice to work with, friendly, professional and local. The included long term service contract was also a valuable bonus.

The tech Kenny came on time, did a great job, and stayed till he knew everything was working properly. He gave me a great price on the work. would use again.

My water heater cracked late Saturday - big leak downstairs, water everywhere. Found them through HomeAdvisor - they were able find a replacement tank, and installed it Sunday morning. Very professional and efficient.
