This company is very professional and provides helpful ideas to make your decisions easier. Installed granite countertops , cleaned the area and took away all debris. Very high mark on customer service. I would recommend this company for any future projects in this line of work.

After several missed appointment finally made it out to give me an estimate, gave him a deposit, and ran into the same issue no communications and never started the job, chose to no longer use him for the job and will not refund me my deposit and now I have to take legal action.

I am responding to Merchant's response to my wife's review directly below this one. In his rebuttal to my wife, the contractor says the floors were sanded to perfection, which I agree with and my wife even acknowledged in her bad review. The contractor then says that we approved the stain. When we first hired them we had agreed on Minwax Dark Walnut; they used a different brand, realized they messed up, sanded it off and used minwax, but the two different color stains caused discoloring on the floor. Upon us returning home from our honeymoon and finding the floor in awful condition, we made them redo it. This was when they finally got the sanding done perfectly... if only their staining had been done so. I watched Chuma start to apply the stain in one room and informed him that you aren't supposed to just paint the stain on, you're supposed to wipe of the excess stain after a few minutes. He was argumentative and said no, I will just spread it thinner, which he did while I was there to watch him work. We went out to dinner and to give them space to finish the job. Upon returning 4 hours later, we found the floors black, with a 1-2 inch layer of excess stain just sitting on the floor. I stayed up until 1am that night wiping all the excess stain off the floor so that the floors would look right (which they do now thanks to my work, not the staining work of Chuma). I then decided to pay them for the work they'd done to get rid of them because they couldn't even fix their mistakes without making more. I applied two coats of poly and the floors look great now. Again, the only thing these guys did right was the sanding, but even then I had to do some sanding on my own in the corners of the room and in the toe-kick areas under the kitchen cabinets because these guys sucked at applying stain. Chuma even told me as I was firing him that he had never worked with oil based stains before. Like how in the world are you a professional with decades of experience if you've never worked with oil based stain before? On top of all the mistakes in their work, they left our house a complete wreck. They got stain all on the walls (which we'd just previously painted), the doors and trim. They also left stain all over our front concrete stairs, which had just been power washed less than a month ago. Now Chuma is probably going to chime in and try to say that I am wrong. But if he's smart he won't, because I captured a lot of pictures of all their mess ups and I will post them all on here for the world to see. See how awful his staining was that it left a one inch thick layer of dried excess stain on top of our floors that I had to remove myself. Now I see why these guys charge so little, because they screw up nearly everything they touch. Not worth the money and I HIGHLY recommend that to those reading reviews that they skip this contractor before he screws up your house like he did ours. I should've been able to relax after getting home from my honeymo

Absolutely awful work. We hired Chuma to refinish our hardwood floors while we were on our honeymoon. He told us the job would take 4 days. When we returned 10 days later the job still wasn't done. My husband ended up finishing the job himself because Merchant Contractors were entirely incompetent, and even when they came to "fix" the job they made more mistakes. Chuma claimed he did not know that you had to wipe wood stain off because he had never worked with oil based stain (yet he claims he has been in the business for 30 years). He literally painted a thick layer of stain onto the floor like paint and left it to dry, which created awful grooves in the floors, sticky residue, and uneven color! In the process, they got stain all over our freshly painted walls, trim, kitchen appliances, toilets, carpet, doors, front steps, and white window blinds (that will now have to be replaced). They also left a boot print in the stain that we had to sand down and completely redo. He also left so much dust and debris that our air conditioner became clogged and we had to pay several hundred dollars to fix it. The only good thing they did was sand the floors evenly. After all the money we have to pay to fix the damage they did to our house, it was not worth the low price!

"The floor was sanded previously by a different company and was totally damaged. We fixed and repaired damaged floor. Owner approved stain and later decided to have the stain removed for probably a different stain. Note previously damaged floor was restored to perfection. Elizabeth and Alex are husband and wife"

Chuma (owner) is nice and a very good talker. Work is half ass. I had carpet installed on my steps...landing isn't pulled tight and many step edges aren't tucked. I also had LVP installed in my basement. Many shoe molding pieces weren't secured down and no transition strips were placed anywhere. I am very disappointed. The price was cool, but be prepared for half ass work.

Laminate Wood or Stone Flooring - Install
This has been my worst experience. I was told that my project would take three days to complete. It turned out to be over two weeks. I was stood up two or three times. I was constantly calling to see where the workers were. At one point two men came to my house to install flooring then left within 15 mins without saying anything. I made the mistake of paying the balance that was due on the day that the job was "supposed" to be complete, only to be told "we need more time" which ended up being another week. Very unprofessional.

"Myana gave us a job 2 months before we actually scheduled the job date and we told her the job will be completed in 3 to 4 business days. She did not actually tell us that we would have to leave her house from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. every day- only 4 hours of work for a job that will take 3 business to 4 business days- this is why it took so long and she failed to recognize that we did extra work that was not on the contract with us. To do this is all the appreciation for the best job."

Chuma had absolutely no respect for my time and doesnt understand that to be home, I had to take off work. He didnt show up the first day at all. Every other day he was late. For example, one Friday he was supposed to be here at 12, but didnt show up until 5pm. Again, I ended up taking half a day off of work just to wait. Additionally, I have very little confidence in their ability to refinish wood floors (the job which Chuma did for me). The poly finish bubbled all over the floor and they didnt even get poly on some of the floor around the edges. You could see and feel this with your hand. They blamed this on "bad poly", and came back to fix it. Now the finish is streaky and looks like someone dragged heavy furniture across the floors. As I'm writing this, I am again waiting for him to show up (currently an hour late and counting) to 'fix' the job for a 2nd time.....I cant express how frustrated I am with this company. I never write reviews, but I wanted to warn others. Obviously I cant go back in time to get back my old floors, but I'm half inclined to just ask them to leave and hire another company to fix their mess.

"for Mr. AJ and his family we installed hardwood floor beautiful done and very lovely for living room and dining room he was a referral an outside referral from Home Advisor he's not at home advisor client or customer for me that we did a beautiful job for him we also did some refinishing job but Mr AJ has a moisture issue in his home which had caused the pallet to bubble and we were able to come back and take care of that that's what timing issue he lives in Clifton Virginia the traffic on Route 66 is always extremely high you never can tell how delay it might be if we got there by an hour behind and the job was well taken care of I have been"

I had vinyl planks installed in my kitchen and after the installers left I noticed the molding had not been secured ,glue was seeping through the joints and items were broken in my bathroom which was adjacent to my kitchen due to the banging. I called and was told it was normal for glue to be present and they would come nail down the molding. It is now over a month later and GLUE IS STILL seeping through the vinyl plank joints!

I will NOT recommend this merchant to anyone for any professional services. He replaced my laminate floor, laminates were not cut to match, leaving spaces / openings by door frames. Spoilt my toilet water tank system when he removed it to install woods. I ended up paying $110 for a plumber to fix it. Left the basement without mopping the dusty floor. Had to pay $150 for professional cleaners to clean up the basement and the garage where the laminate wood was cut. Entire garage was filled with wood dust. Such a bad job, I regret using his services. I will end up getting someone to work on this again as the some parts of the floor depresses when walk on it.

He quickly called and was able to begin the work. He gave a quote over the phone which proved to be very inaccurate because the room was bigger than he anticipated (He had me take a picture of the room). The job also took longer than he told me it would. The furniture was not put back like he said it would. He did not leave the extra materials like he said he would. The floor is complete, it looks nice (except for the labels he left on the trim), and it was reasonably priced. I would use them again but would be prepared for the above snags.

Chuma contacted me very quickly after my inquiry and showed up on time to provide an estimate for my flooring project. He provided the best estimate and was awarded the job. He and his Assistant, Max showed up on time and completed my kitchen floor in record time. They were very respectful, professional and focused and my family is pleased with the end result. I highly recommend this company and will likely be using them for future projects. Thank you Mr. Chuma and Max!

I was working with the national flooring company, and I needed some subfloor work done which they refused to do, even my contractor did not want to do the work after four weeks of back and forth between the two I gave up. I called Merchants on a Wednesday night they came out and gave me a price for the work that nite, they said it could be done in four hours, and it was. So I used them to lay a beautiful cherry wood floor. All in all they saved me $2500 Thank you Merchants
