Reviews
Write a ReviewCommunication was lacking but when finally transferred the work was good.
I shopped around for a company that I felt would provide good work and be honest. Merick Construction was the company I selected after talking to several companies; some who are well-known and even "seen on TV". Merick was the only one that laid everything out in a clear, understandable manner. We knew our exact costs. Every person who came to work on our home was professional and friendly making a stressful remodeling project to get the home ready for sale, less daunting. The hardest part of the project was finding the right company to do the work. Hopefully, this review will help someone else in a similar position save the time and stress of doing the homework we already did.
They didn't do everything that was talked about. Had to have them come back up to clean up all the dust that was spread over everything in basement to due having fans blow for 3-4 days non stop. They were not friendly
I thought of doing a long review, but Ive already wasted enough time. - Took over 4 months - Merick messed up the initial estimate delaying the process - Merick said the insurance company was delaying the process but the insurance company sent me the checks right away which I told Merick multiple times. - Merick hired a subcontractor, who had no right finishing a ceiling or tiling. Overall quality was subpar at best. Ended the contract early to finish the work myself. Only nice thing I can say was that the project manager was a nice guy and seemed sympathetic to the situation.
Hi David, Ill give you a call to discuss your concerns with the worker and the issues you had in your home. As for the insurance process, I understand it can be long and confusing for homeowners, especially during a catastrophe like we experience this past March with all the flooding. Adjusters are backed up, contractors are backed up, even material vendors too. We documented every step of the way as we work through the insurance approval process and Im happy to share that with you. We started your project on 6/7 and we completed it on 7/1. Less then a month. We got approval on 5/6 from insurance and we told customers 3-4 weeks out to start
Home Advisor page says this company offers free estimates; Not so, I found they charged me for an "emergency call after business hours" $222. Odd, so just by answering the phone and saying they would come out the next day cost me 2bills. Was never told about it. I dis covered it after I paid for the mitigation. In fact, I didn't know they were going to come and rip out my kitchen and bedroom walls until they started doing it. Minutes after I signed something saying the cost was TBD. Rick said not to worry that insurance was going to pay for it. (Fortunately they did) They left my kitchen sink and countertop in my dining room along with a few cabinets they ripped out. I had to dismantle and stuff all of my kitchen cupboard contents in my living room (where it still sits to this day, with the promise of a pod) Then, they left me like that for a week until I finally called and asked when they were going to set up time to come out and do the estimate to fix everything. Matt came out. Made it sound great, like it was going to get done. He did ask for me to be patient. I thought two weeks of hearing nothing was enough with me and my cabinets in my bedroom, no kitchen sink, the contents of my kitchen cabinets and drawers in my living room, and I won't discuss the upstairs bedroom that was also defiled during their tear out massacre. I had to constantly check numbers and measurements because a lot wasn't jiving. Either they failed to submit the numbers or in their defense, my insurance adjuster was changing the numbers on a few items. I could never get a detailed item cost estimate. I only received item numbers and an occasional dollar amount. I was confused! I had to ask for them to get an electrician out several times. Matt had come on 3/25/19 to do measurements and get the estimate numbers. He said they needed to get an electrician out. And guess what? Funny story: electrician didn't show up until May 9th. They were going on the thought that they could just leave the electric TBD. But not with my insurance company State Farm. They wanted numbers and a megohmmeter report. On April 30th I received a call from Merick and they wanted 30% down to start. So I gave them a check the next day thinking this would move things along. They cashed it in a hurry. I called the next day to set up a meeting with Mike to get a start date. We met on 5/7 and he wasn't real sure what insurance covered as far as electrical. Said they were going to get an electrician out and finally the guy came out on 5/9. Talked to Mike again on 5/14. He said they submitted the estimate but Rachel hasn't heard back from insurance. At one point Mike actually told me that from now on I was to deal with him and not Rachel. Ok fine, waited until 5/21 he sent the electrician back out to do a megohmmeter test/ reading because my insurance was asking for it. I asked Mike to have Rachel send me the reports from the electrician several times on 5/7, 5/13,5/14,5/15, and 5/24. I finally just called him on 5/31 and asked for my deposit back until they could actually give me a start date since it had been 5 weeks. That's when they wanted to come over and tear or more walls. No-kay! Ultimately, Matt got a hold of me and I asked for my money back. He charged me $1200 for the megohmmeter report and $400 for the "overhead" for all the messed up and delayed paperwork. When I talked to my insurance adjuster, she said I talked to her more than Merick.
Thank you for your feedback Gina. We strive to improve process and customer experience. Unfortunately in this situation we were working through a tough insurance adjuster that caused some unnecessary delays and frustrations for all parties. This also was taking place during a flooding catastrophe that caused many construction companies and insurance adjusters to be overwhelmed with people in need. I am glad we were able to come together and go in separate directions in a way that was mutually beneficial.
I was very impressed by the quick response time by Merick. I had reached out to a number of other service providers and they were the only company that could come within 48 hours. When they arrived, Rick was great. he was very informative and answered the questions I had. I had some challenges throughout the processes but the team was always available to discuss and resolve the issues to make sure I was able to get back into my basement as soon as possible. The owner of the company also got involved to make sure the quality of the work was up to my standards and came out to my house to help provide suggestions to prevent future issues. Overall, I was impressed with Merick and their ability to do the full project. No one ever wants to deal with floods or other natural damage but having someone you can trust is very important.
Thanks Joe!
I would definitely recommend this company as the owner, Matt, and his crew leader went out of their way to make sure one little hiccup was handled in a timely manner and to my satisfaction. I don't think you can go wrong trusting them to do a good job.
Thank you Pat!
They did a great job at a busy time because there was lots of water damage at that time.
Thank you for your feedback Phillip!
We really cannot say enough about Merick Construction. These are just a few words that come to mind...Timely, Accommodating, Professional, Efficient, Friendly, just to name a few. Their turn around time was impressive to say the least. It was freezing rain and blowing out like crazy and they worked just as hard as if it was a sunny day and did not blink an eye. Absolutely one of the best customer service businesses that we have ever come in contact with. Thank you from all of us at Epiphany Assisted Living.
Thank you for the feedback Tammy!
