Clayton at Metro Chimney does the whole job â the important stuff that chimney sweeps tend to miss. I would probably have regretted getting anyone else. We're installing a gas fireplace and the installer recommended we get it swept by Metro Chimney. Initially, I didn't think a cleaning made sense. We had it done only a few years earlier and had maybe three fires in the fireplace since â not much. Still, I asked Metro Chimney to clean it. I thought they would say it was clean and be done with it. Clayton arrived, then pulled several pounds of ash and stuff off of what he called the smoke shelf. You can see it in the heavy garbage bag in the photo. He said that companies arenâ t cleaning the smoke shelf much anymore and itâ s the most important part of a chimney cleaning. He said that stuff can stink if we heat it with a gas stove. Our shelf had not been cleaned out in 30 to 40 years. Metro Chimney is the real deal.
