Run by Michael Presti., 29 of Rensselaer NY. Crew consists of hired hands approximately 20-30 years of age with less than 6 months experience. Hired to pull up existing 130 year old hardwood in dining room, replace necessary subfloor components to alleviate dips/low areas in floor, reinstall 130 year old hardwood. Promised floor would be perfectly flat (but not level, as the house is not level). Quoted at $1,305 for 243 sq/ft of work. In summary, Michael's Hardwood Flooring is an unprofessional crew of individuals who will not show respect for your home or property. They stated to me directly, ''We're young guys who need to make a name for ourselves'', and knowing I would be reviewing their work, they provided sub-par craftsmanship and attention to detail, and above all, lack of safety and care for our home. Cutting and stripping wires to be placed directly into an outlet is of extreme concern, and could have easily set our home on fire. Paired with the damage to other non-involved hardwood floors and providing a floor that is not flat despite $400 in additional material and labor, this is not a company you want to hire. The good: Functional wood floor installed. The Bad; - Although floor was assessed as original 130 years old, MHF only specified after pulling up two pieces of hardwood in the middle of the room that it was too thin to lay back down and refinish. Work stopped until we agreed that new wood flooring would be replaced. Cost of new wood floor; $2,381 installed, stained, 3 coats poly. - Despite new cost including ''Any sub floor repair'' (none were necessary), MHF advised that laying plywood over existing (and in good condition) subfloor planks would ensure new floor would be perfectly flat for an additional $400 including materials and installation. Spoiler alert: Floor was still not anywhere near perfectly flat by end of project (It is, however, better than it was). After having MHF repair [new] wood floor where areas were still low after replacement, MHF insisted problem lied with sagging joists although previous inspection of basement/joists was conducted during Mr. Presti's initial visit for price quote, and no issues were found. Joists were not altered during this project. - Crew was late every day, between 1 hour and 3.5 hours at the latest. Crew typically left at approximately 3pm daily regardless of late arrival. - Crew damaged property including original 130 year old flooring in separate room not being worked on - scratches and scuffs in multiple areas caused by crew leaving metal tools on bare floor. Mr. Presti offered to repair - Denied after showing carelessness in original work. No compensation was offered. -Crew did not bring a single drop-cloth or protective covering. Entire lower level of house covered in dust and debris. Tools, trim, and soda cans were left on furniture (tables, chairs, sofas), bare wood floors, build-in's, dining hutch, etc during duration of work regardless of being told not to
