A Legacy Built on Experience, Service, and Trust At Michiana Veterans Home & Building Services, our story began in Chicago in 1995 when our founder, Marc Shudnow, bought a fixer-upper, got scammed by contractors, and decided to fix it himself. That trial by fire sparked a lifelong dedication to quality, craftsmanship, and doing right by homeowners. Marc later became a licensed home inspector, giving him a unique perspective on how to build, repair, and improve homes with a sharp eye for detail and safety. Today, Marc runs day-to-day operations while his wife, Ivana Shudnow, proudly serves as the majority owner. Together, they’ve built a company rooted in family values, veteran pride, and a no-nonsense commitment to quality.

Bathroom - Remodel
Very bad did not finish the jobs, still waiting for the jobs to get done.
Tired of the owner cussing me out not just 1 time but 2 times.
My kitchen counter is loose, my bathroom has marks and glue all over it.
My kitchen sink has glue on it, and my dryer and floor has glue on it.

Kitchen - Remodel
Marc Shudnow and family (owners of many LLCs in and around IN, MI, PA, IL, CT) are liars, fraudsters, thieves and cheats. In 2025, I used this family?s remodeling business in South Bend, IN, Veterans Handyman. Marc had to demolition his own work multiple times then walked off the job. Left me hanging with four destroyed rooms including kitchen and destroyed furnace. I lost a lot of money and time working with these people. Please, don?t waste your time with any of Marc and or Ivana Shudnow?s businesses; REMODELING, REAL ESTATE, INSPECTIONS, duct cleaning, junk hauling, fencing, decking, flooring, home repairs, child care ?

Bathroom - Remodel
After meeting with Marc, I decided to allow them to remodel my bathroom. I signed the agreement after adding that the majority of the project needed to be completed by August 31st, since I returned to work on the 2nd of September. They started demo on August 19th and cut my pipe in the shower, which caused a leak in the basement, which flooded my unused 2-person sauna. DON came later that evening to fix it. I received an update that Don wouldn't be able to make it on August 21st to take his wife to a doctor's appointment. I received an update on August 22nd that he would not be there due to truck issues. August 23rd was a show as well. I began to doubt my ability to complete the project at that point. The project was completed in a hurry on September 12th. After they left and I made the final payment, I explained that there would need to be spots touched up with the paint, and also, the door trim was not attached properly. Don said he would take care of it. A week later, he sent a text that he didn't forget about me, but they were busy. Another week went by, so I called the office. I called the office on 9/29. On October 2nd, they sent a person out to complete the paint touch-up, flooring gap, and fix the door trim. After he left, I just touched up additional spots and still have more to do. I was cleaning on October 12th and noticed that one side of the toilet was not secured properly. I called and left a message with the office. I didn't receive a response, so I called and left messages on October 20th and 27th. I have not heard from anyone, so on November 10th, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I still have not received any response.

"I am so sorry Mr. Rickey Miller is not happy. We tried everything to make his toilet stable, but in the end, he needs to replace his flange (which we did not touch). He declined to have us repair it and was going to have his friend repair it. We wish Mr. Miller the best of luck."

Doors (Exterior) Installation and Replacement
They did a great job of installing entry door. However, the storm door was not put in correctly. Not leveled. They left grout on entry tiles that my husband had to research how to remove. Did not finish the drywall patching or putting the door trim up. the job did not take two days like he quoted it would take. I felt I was overcharged for having to pay for the extra hours. He never offered to reimburse me for any of the issues that I brought to his attention. ?

The company stayed in constant communication. When they were on their way, who was coming and what to expect....there were no hidden fees or "extra" charges....very upfront honest company

Showed up on time both times, there was an equipment breakdown the first time but they were able to come back a couple of days later to finish the work. They offered a good price and I was completely satisfied.

I was surprised after he left to find the old dryer vent tubing laying in the hallway with dust balls. He also didnâ t have my correct phone number so I didnâ t get the call about changed timing.
