Exterior Painting and Staining Service
Painter was hired through Angi. He gave us a price immediately via Google images of the home. He did not visually inspect the home. I told him we had prepped the home by way of scrapping and sanding but the home was wood and in rough shape. Due to the end of the season, we wanted to try and get it painted before it got too cold. For a few weeks we went back and forth and waiting until the timing was right. The painter stated they were going to pressure wash the home on 9/28. It should be noted it was raining that day, and the entire next day as well. The painter came back on Wednesday, October 30, and was there for 8 hours and stated he primed and applied 3 coats of paint to the home. When the homeowner arrived back, he stated the home did not look like it had been painted well, it was splotchy and had streaks. You could see the green paint underneath the paint as well. We texted back and forth with the painter who was adamant the painting was done properly. Based on videos at the home, the owner saw the painters spray the house with paint once, and then touch up with brushes around the house in certain areas. They did not pass the house 3 (4 with primer) times. The painter stated they used all the paint and left some in the can by the garage. We texted back and forth and asked him to come back and recoat the houes to which he stated he would only do that once the first payment reached his account. I paid through Venmo, and the first payment I turned on "purchases" for some protection. The second payment I sent directly in two increments. The painter stated his workers did the job as described and stated that because the house was rough and over prepped, the paint wouldn't be great. I asked him why he painted when the house was still wet and hadn't had enough time in the weather to dry and he blamed me for pushing him to get it done. I had waited for 2-3 weeks for weather to be better and in no way had become impatient. I wanted the job done properly. I called Sherwin Williams (where he bought the paint from) and inquired about the paint and its coverage. The store stated he had not made a purchase of white paint in the last 30 days. We verified that the paint can he had left was not expired, but they could not determine when he had purchased it. I sent pictures of the house to other painters in my living area of the twin cities and their opinion was that the house was not primed and painted only once through and the house was too wet for the paint to adhere. We attempted to get the provider to come back and fix the job but he did not. We have a dispute going with Venmo to get the money that hasn't been released yet back to me. I am asking for the half back - $2575.

He kept us up to date on scheduling changes due to weather, and final cost was exactly what the bid was.
