Write a ReviewVery nice work and quick!
Good work
Large concrete driveway to replace asphalt. Looked great for three years and then started seeing small areas of pop-outs. The next year, large areas of pop-outs, so I called Mike and he immediately blamed me for using driveway deicers (which I have never used). The 5-year warranty specifically excluded deicer damage so that was his out. I had an expert inspect and he diagnosed poor finishing and cure installation. The whole driveway is pitted and looks terrible! I gave up after his attitude, and it is too expensive to sue. Come see for yourself or I will send you photos.

Really good experience.
We are writing this review based on the quality of work received from Mike Hage Distinctive Concrete and Masonry. As a result of the safety concerns and poor quality of the finished product we eventually had to take Mike to Minnesota Conciliation and District Court and won at every level. He now owes us over $9,500 but refuses to pay. We are sharing our story so you can decide for yourself if he is the type of individual you want to work with. In August of 2015 we had Mike install a new stamped concrete patio and apply an overlay to our existing front walkway. We chose Mike based on a competitive bid and his 30+ years of experience. We would guess that after that many years in business he has many satisfied customers but also assume that sometimes his projects do not go according to plan. If that happens to you do not expect to have any resolution provided by Mike or his company. Mike will say that we were difficult to work with, that he attempted to fix the problems, that he has many satisfied clients, etc. This is his standard response to the complaints previously filed by others. The last time we talked we offered to never contact him again if he was willing to put our project on his website as an example of his workmanship. He immediately declined due to the many structural and safety concerns involved. We posted pictures on another well know review site if you want to see an example of the work Mike provided to us. The project started out fine and we even complimented him on the professional nature of his crew. The many problems started almost immediately after the project was completed as outlined below. 1. From the beginning, the surface was extremely slippery when wet and once the snow started to fall we were unable to use our front walk or new patio (the two are connected so that is why I am indicating the slippery patio). If it rained you had to use another door and the homeowner had many falls with even a light dusting of snow. We contacted Mike and he said that these types of surfaces can be slippery and suggested that we use sand. This is the main entrance to our house and we were unable to use it for most of the winter even though it was kept clear. Other contractors refused to use the walk and we ended up having to post a warning to visitors. Mike did try to put on a new top coat for the walkway the next year but it started to peel within a month and is now flaking off in many places. The largest flaking section is almost 2 feet across. This is not the quality work he claims to provide. 2. The overall finished product was of poor quality. He did not properly finish the edge of the patio and attempted a quick patch. He used a warped blade to cut the joints (only admitted this after it was brought to his attention) so the lines are crooked and we have an edge to edge crack in the patio that occurred within the first year. The patio is also so sloped that our lawn chairs slide off in a wind. These are the heavy "by the y
This man has control issues and is just not a nice person. We did beautiful work for him and returned continuously to try to appease his issues. I have 4-5 men who can witness his absurd demands and unwillingness to be realistic. Unfortunately he did win a case against me only because I was out of town and not able to appear. I wish I never met him and should have never worked for him. Obviously our other reviews speak the truth and tell the story of my 38 years of experience and knowledge. I pity anyone who contracts with him.
Goofd Work Prompt, and good follow up
Beware. If you want to be kept in the loop about the job you hired them for it wont happen. I sent them a deposit to have my steps replaced. The deposit was sent express mail 3 times so they would have to sign for. But know one is there at there office to receive it so it was returned. The secretary came by to get it. Weeks and weeks go by we hear nothing about a start date. So my husband call a few times I gets no call back c mon at least call back. So we sent a email. Wow we get a response. Finally demo gets done framing didn't get started for about a week even though the guy who did the demo said someone will be there right after he was done. When the framing finally got done it felt like forever again to get the concrete poured. Every time it seems like they forgot about the job at our house I d email them then they would do some work. Another thing they did was they left the wood in our basement when they did the framing. And the sign they put up to say who they are they left it standing.. They didn't even take there sign. When I emailed them about there sign a few weeks later Mike Hage said I can just throw it away. Wow what professionalism.
