Mountain Life Custom Staining, Inc.

Hired Ted and Mountain Life Custom Staining for a small amount of painting and a larger staining project. Ted required $2000 up front to defray cost of materials. I sent photos of both paint and stain weâ d used. Days later he and crew showed up with no paint. He began to spray deck but was stopped quickly because he was using a clear finish and not the the stain color Iâ d sent. I showed him our leftover stain, and he said heâ d be back in a few days with paint and stain to finish. When he showed up the next time, the painting his employee did was satisfactory. However, Ted again sprayed the deck with the clear product! Like a dummy, I gave him another $2000 on his promise to come back with the correct product. My husband was livid and stopped payment on the second $2000 and said he didnâ t want Tedâ s services again. Our deck looks horrible, really horrible, and Ted has threatened to place a lien on our house if we donâ t pay the second $2000 for very unsatisfactory work. We are a retired couple on a fixed income and feel victimized by Ted. I wish I could post photos to show how awful our deck looks after Tedâ s work, and also a screen shot of the threat to place a lien on our house because he knows we need to sell it.

This contractor ripped us off big time. Said he needed 10% upfront to hold a spot on his calendar. Then he needed 50% to start the job. Showed up for maybe 12 hours total and had every excuse in the book for 2 months at which point we simply gave up. He even used the excuse that his mother died to avoid us! Rip off, con artist!

This is a great contractor. I have already hired for a second project which speaks to his work. Ted is very meticulous and pays attention to detail. He follows up to ensure every expectation has been met. He also has a great crew as well. They are respectful and polite and always professional. Clean up was also very impressive. I highly recommend.
