Handyman for Multiple Small Projects
Rick Grooms was very professional, on time, and was able to complete our minor jobs around the house quickly and effectively. We call him again for future jobs.

I found the handyman to be excellent but I thought the cost of putting together a pantry cabinet to be exorbitant.

Weatherstripping - Install or Replace

After sending photos of what I needed to be done in my home (as requested by Mr Handyman), I was given an estimated price for the work. I was told that the first hour included a van stocking fee as well as a travel fee to my home. After the initial hour, the rate would be $30 for every 15 minutes. Based on my quote, the job should have taken 2hrs. The tech arrived 15 minutes late. He then asked me if I had the replacement parts he was going to fit (4 sets of rubber seals and some screws). At no point during multiple text messages and a phone call when I made the booking, was I informed that no parts that needed replacing would be provided by Mr Handyman. I was very clear about asking questions and the fact that photos were requested and a van stocking fee was being charged, gave the impression that I did not need to purchase anything prior to their arrival. It took the tech the best part of 60 minutes to drive to the Home Depot which is 8 minutes away from my home and back. During his time at the house, he took multiple personal calls on his cell phone. He made a mistake fitting one of the rubber seals because he was distracted talking and had to undo and redo the work. He told me repeatedly that he had bad knees/legs and needed surgery. As a result he seemed in pain as he slowly went up and down stairs and ladders. I assisted with one of the items that needed to be replaced so that he would not have to go up and down the ladder. In the end, the total price I was asked to pay was $200 more than my initial quote. When I asked for a breakdown of costs, I was told part of the reason it was more was because we upcharge customers anytime we have to buy anything. I guess $30 every 15 mins is not enough profit. The items purchased easily came to less than $90. I received a message from Mr Handyman asking for my feedback. When I gave it, I was given an apology and 10% off a future service request. Sure, so we can upcharge you and give you 10% off. I only used this company because the person I normally use who I found on Thumbtack has moved out of state. I wont be using them in future and do not recommend using them unless you have money to burn.

So far the job has gone well. Weâ re half way thru. Only criticism is that they have extra fees & charges which are not clearly explained before you get into the job( â service feeâ , â material feeâ ). We negotiated a fixed price of $650 which was to be all inclusive, meaning it included the drywall material. But when presented with the itemized bill it contained a $75 service fee and a $100 material fee.

On October 6, 2020, I got an estimate from Mr. Handyman. The owner of the business, David Thompson, took the job on October 12. He ended up taking my window frame apart, drilling holes into my drywall, damaging my walls, window frame, and my blinds. After doing so, he called me the next day and told me he could not complete the job. He referred me to go to Home Depot to talk to a lady at the window department named Renee and let them take over and do the job. The next day I went there and I spoke to Renee to schedule an appointment. I had them come and give me an estimate, once they did, they assured me they are not responsible for the previous damages from Mr. Handyman. I had automatically contacted Mr. Handyman on October 14, 2020. On October 19, 2020, Mr. David Thompson arrived at my residence and tried to repair the damages he caused. He made a comment: **all you need is tape and glue** and he honestly meant it, because, by the time he left, my window frame did not look anything like it looked before he took it apart. He did not use the right equipment, he tried to repair it the cheapest possible way. On November 6, I requested to have someone else come to do repairs at my residence. On November 10, I had another Mr. Handyman arrive at my residence named **John Fagan**, the man was really rude and told me he could not do the repairs. On November 11, 2020 I had another Mr. Handyman arrive at my residence. His name is Travis Skellen. he did not repair the damages properly, the paint to the window frame did not match and the drywall was not properly repaired. It is as if the owner, David Thompson, was trying to cut corners and have it done the cheapest way possible. David Thompson has argued with me about buying proper paint and replacing parts to my window blind that he has damaged, for no reason. On November 16, 2020 David Thompson offered to pay me $150 for the window repair by another company. I responded by email, telling him that I will have to get an estimate from a company before I agree on that offer, since he has caused other damages trying to put my window frame back together. He has additionally caused walls by my window being damaged with the paste he smeared all over and the wood frame. I have been in contact with David M. Powers he is the financial business coach for Mr. Handyman and I have called the corporation to resolve my issue. The issue has not been resolved. I have been patiently waiting. All I want is for them to pay for the damages that they caused. I do not want this company at my residence. Obviously, nobody at that office knows how to repair anything properly besides causing additional damages.
Response from Mr. Handyman of Canton and Woodstock
"I regret that we were not able to satisfy Ms. R. First of all, she has never been charged for any of my and my men's time and trips (4) in regards to this issue. We tried our best to resolve/replace her broken window given her stated safety concerns. But we couldn't, and, after discussing the situation with the Home Depot associate, I directed her to talk with them directly as this would be the most cost effective solution for Ms.R. The repairs needed to her window casing were minimal (two 1/2" by 2" by 1/2" deep holes) that can easily be repaired with drywall mud. I, personally, made the initial repairs (including replacing the window trim and sill that I had removed). I promised her repeatedly that the repairs would be completed, but was told not to come back. So, I sent two of my other experts on two separate days. They, too, after their first trip, were requested to not return based on perceived poor workmanship. Given her pattern I, regrettably, had to cease any further help as she, most likely, will never be satisfied."
