Happened in 2001 but just stumbled across this site, assume he has not gotten better. National Chimney Masonry was contracted to clean my chimney. While cleaning they told my wife that the chimney was seriously deteriorated and recommended a stainless steel liner. Big surprise they had it on the truck and scared her into the installation that day - $1,100. It was bad enough to get taken on the install but they did not even do it correctly and created a bad situation in my home. I returned home a week later to find our home filled with smoke and soot. I called my oil company who told me that the insert was incorrectly installed and National had sealed the pipe with an excessive amount of cement, which fell into the chimney opening and completely sealed it off. I called a REPUTABLE Chimney service to inspect and here is what they found: A 5 inch insert was placed into a 7 inch chimney opening which was not only against code, but was not large enough to support the existing oil burning furnace and gas hot water heater. This caused a backup of smoke and soot which clogged the furnace and the insert. The installer ran the hot water heater smoke pipe directly into the wall, instead of using the proper connection outside of the wall, which is against code. When the hot water heater was installed in the wall, the installer cut into the stainless steel insert, instead of using a T connection, invalidating the lifetime warranty on the insert. Two new chimney caps were installed, one of which was the incorrect size for the chimney opening. The two caps that were fine were taken away Inspection of the top of the chimney showed that furnace cement was used to seal the new insert in place. Cardboard was packed around the insert pipe to keep it in place while the cement dried, which is not only against code, but caused a dangerous fire hazard in the chimney. Inspection of the top eight feet of the chimney showed only normal wear and tear, a condition in which an insert is not recommended by a reputable chimney cleaning company. Repeated calls to the company and messages left have been ignored and owner Tom Casey told me to take him to court. I took him to small claims court, he did not show, and the judge decided it was a clear case of consumer fraud and awarded TRIPLE what I was asking. Of course I have not been able to collect. Shoddy work and zero attempt to make it right, scammer.

Don t believe the negative reviews on other review sites. Tom from National Chimney, Inc did a fantastic job installing a chimney cap/damper. I found him to be extremely friendly, punctual, and efficient. Tom came out as scheduled for the cap installation. He provided a quick inspection. He showed me the inner workings of the chimney from the firebox and pictures from the top. He told me my chimney is in great shape and I just needed the cap. I saw slight water damage, so I had him water proof the chimney as well. Tom and his crewman did the job lightening fast then showed me how to operate the new damper. Highly recommend.

I have had Tom come to my home for wood stove installation, chimney cleaning and roof inspection and repair for years. He does a superb job and I highly recommend him.

So professional, very prompt and texts or calls with estimated arrival time, provides detailed explanations as to the work recommended, is not an alarmist, provides fast service, provides before and after pictures of the work, and he SAVED ME MONEY by being honest and telling me what we didn't need that another company quoted us for work. Who does that?! His work and materials were also far superior in quality than what I would have paid double for with a competitor. Had leak in fireplace. What they said would fix leak did not work. I tried to call him at least 5 times to tell him it was still leaking. Never returned phone calls. Would not hire!! I had to call someone else to fix.

Initial cleaning price was very low, but was upsold vent and chimney caps for much more. Seems like the cleaning service is used as a loss leader to get in the house. Actually told me my chimney didn't need cleaning.
