I will make a list of criteria for building a house and a rating for how Baard handled them Communication- poor. Does not respond to emails and limited response to texts. Does not keep customers up to date on any progress. Does not communicate or listens well with his sub-contractors. He makes construction schedules that are never even close to being accurate. He does not take notes when talking with the client. Does not remember half the things asked or told to him. Does not research new practices. Money management. Does not care about the price of materials just buys. Has limited excel spread sheet skills. Does not use change orders. Customer never knows how much Baard spends until you receive overrun invoice for payment. He has not kept up with current pricing of materials in today's environment. Construction knowledge- below average. Has a basic knowledge on home construction but is not up to date on current energy efficiency products. Quality work- variable. His subcontractor did good to great job but anything Baard oversees is average to below average. His attention to detail is extremely poor. Uses the improper tools for detailed work. Too many things that are standard for the completion of a house were not completed. Details - did not create a blueprint or a list of materials needed to be supplied by customer. Our final home has scratches in floors, dent in the ceiling, scratches and glue marks in new countertops, a few areas of where the finished walls were not properly completed. We have knicks in our doors and nails sticking out of our trim work. From the beginning we told Baard that we wanted our house handicap accessible for future plans. Our front door is 5 feet off the ground and our garage door is four feet off the concrete. I, as the homeowner had to install insulation on the basement walls, two shower walls and doors and constantly had to clean up their garbage that was left everywhere. I had to design and build a retaining wall because of poor planning of the buildings layout. The original agreed budget for the house was $200,000 and the final cost was over $350, 000.
Response from Norseman Superior Construction, LLC
"I do not usually respond to my ratings, but this one is laughable. I have been in the building industry since 1978 and have building homes in a Minneapolis suburb till I moved up her and started again about six years ago and hold a Builder's License as well as a Dwelling Qualifier License which is very hard to get, letting me as a contractor take all permits out. The home was constructed with a bank construction loan, so it was not only inspected from the state but also periodically from the loan department with no problem at all. The customer had no real knowledge of construction, but obviously thought so. Do to the Covid all material was out more than 3 months and we made everything happen as fast as possible and saved him thousands. He is also a liar! Handicapped ramps were never mentioned at all. He could easily have mentioned that as we built the stairs since he was there mostly 4 days out of the week and still texted me 5-6 times a week about the same items and I responded as often as I could. He purchased the cheapest, showers I have ever seen so there was no way my plumbers would install and guaranty results! As soon as the house was under roof, he filled the garage with cabinets and appliances so we could not use that for staging our equipment for finishing. He also filled up the basement with furniture and junk before the plumbers, electricians and heating persons were done!!! The work site was kept clean, but it was still a construction site. Him and his wife was there constantly fine cleaning long before necessary. I use a cad program to create all my own plans and drawings. Blueprints has not been used for ages since the modern cads came to be. Of course, complete plans and drawings were done. How else would we get the permits? Again laughable, he has full sets! Another lie! As far as the scratches on the floor, we have no idea who made them since he was moving in furniture and other stuff all the time. They could easily be made by them. I never insulate the basement till all the subs are out of there, just in case! He was nagging me offered to do it himself, so I got the material and let him do it! He owns a Bobcat and wanted to do all lot prep and landscaping himself. What a mistake! Ther is no wonder there may be problems. He never listened to what needed to be done but took it on himself to do what he wanted, very badly at that. Right before the house closed I had several future customers walk through and they were all complimenting how good everything looked except for the work they took on themself. Some of it horrible. I will ty to have them contact Angi's list and post comments. I have pictures and plans for anyone to see. They said the agreed budget was $ 200,000.00. Maybe the original budget for them. They signed a contract for $287,892.00 and that was met! I used change orders where needed, but a few things like the wanted the garage door to be 9' tall rather than 8' at the time of contract signing, so I said ok as long as they would pay for it and I offered t have it insulated for free. A mistake, they never paid for the larger door! Very expensive. They talk about proper tools! What fools! After more than 40 years in the business, are they kidding! Since all new homes have to be inspected and meet UBC ( Uniformed Building Codes), it's impossible to build to lesser energy efficiency than the contract specifies, and the law requires. Another lie? Since we were building during Covid I allowed the customer great leeway's as far as spending time during the project other than a couple hrs. each week to see the progress. I guess that backfired. I had told th customer that I would help him with some things not in the contract, but after this. No way! I am in contact with Sylvin Help Center to see if further legal action for defamation is needed, For anyone that is reading this and need some info, please contact me at "Blovaas52@outlook.com" Thanks."

I heard from Baard the very next morning after giving my request to HomeAdvisor. Was able to meet him at location for the power washing & staining of decks, plus washing house siding. He came with a proposal which I was pleased with. Accepted his recommended color of stain for the decks. Even though the projected was delayed some by rain, Baard got the job done as quickly as possible. I will ditto what others have said, prompt, on time and professional. I would recommend him and hire him again.
