I had a water valve break open in the kitchen and the water pressure was incredible. After an hour of bailing with a bucket and a sponge mop, I called the City of Joseph to have them turn the water off. Everything was soaked, I didn't want to even take the time to call to get the water turned off, but I wasn't winning the "water war" at all. So by the time they got the water off and I changed clothes there was about 1" of water still standing all over the kitchen/dining room floor and it had soaked the downstairs carpet completely. After the water was shut off, I called our insurance agent and a friend who both recommended this company. I briefly checked them out (I always check out contractors of any kind) and called them. They happened to not be busy and managed to get up to Joseph, OR in record time. I was trying to get everything off the carpet and floor asap, but the water was coming both from on top and underneath so it was a losing battle. I'm also physically disabled which made everything agony or impossible. Bret was so calm and reassuring and I was so grateful that they managed to get here the same day considering it was, at least, a 2 hr drive and it was almost 2:00 pm when I called them. Bret took tons of pictures with an amazing camera that showed the water using an infrared technology where as my camera showed very little. His pictures alone were worth their weight in (whatever is really valuable these days). I was still working with Jeff (his right hand man) to keep moving things off the floor and shove them anywhere there was any space, including the backyard, upstairs, upstairs landing, etc. Bret finally told me to stop, I was holding onto a nitrostat spray bottle and I probably looked like a drowned, half dead rat. I mentioned I was disabled, so I couldn't move anything heavy. I conceded to Bret's advice, went upstairs and promptly collapsed. He had already told me the main game plan, but didn't have any insurance info or signature. He just dug in and did far more than I thought he could do. Construction experience is so helpful in this type of business! They didn't leave until about 9:15 pm. I had the water back on, the kitchen stove on blocks in the living room and a bizillion filters, dehumidifiers & (most appreciated) even a heavy duty hepa filter. He was so nice! Told me that they had done all they could for now and they would follow-up tomorrow but it might take 3-4 days just to save the new, expensive carpet that was only a couple years old. I thought they would rip it out, but he assured me that in this environment at this time of year there was a good chance of saving the carpet. After hearing of his "Mold" training, I trusted him. I know how insideous and dangerous mold can be and how hard it is to find someone even in the Portland, OR area that is qualified to deal with it, let alone out here in eastern Oregon.
