How do you thank someone who has led you from chaos to serenity? At first, it was difficult for me to admit I needed the help of a professional organizer. Most of my friends would tell you I'm a very organized person. BUT... after losing my husband and downsizing from a home into a smaller apartment with 40 years of "stuff" to sort through and organize, I finally woke up and realized I was in over my head. I found you by Googling "Professional Organizers." Among the links that came up was one for the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO). I thought this sounded like a good place to start, so I put in my zip code, and a long list of professional organizers in the DFW area came up. I randomly chose one, and saw that she had every kind of credential a professional organizer could have. So, I called her and told her I was about to lose my mind trying to unpack, sort and organize boxes and boxes of "stuff"and desperately needed help. Not only that, I was facing a time crunch and didn't know how I could possibly get it all done. She told me she was leaving on vacation, but could refer me to someone she felt sure could help me. Barbie, that someone was you, and from the beginning, I knew I had made the right decision. I couldn't even see the top of my desk, but the chaos I was living in didn't seem to faze you. As soon as you walked in, you looked around and got right to work. You were reassuring, professional, and non-judgmental, making suggestions and asking what I thought about doing this or that with piles and piles of linens, clothes, photos, home decor, books, files, papers and furniture. When certain objects affected me emotionally, you understood. Tears would sometimes fill my eyes, and you would quietly suggest I take a moment, step back, walk away, and take a few deep breaths before coming back. Or, you would say, "We don't have to do this right now. Why don't we look at something else and come back to this later?" Other times, when I felt overwhelmed by the enormity of the job and experienced "brain fog", you kept us on track by remaining calm, cool, logical, & focused. Thank you so much for being there for me. You were the strong, steady, knowledgeable professional organizer I needed. Your experience, confidence, and thoughtfulness were the "spoon full of sugar" I needed to make the "medicine go down."
