"We met with the clients and they gave us a list of their requirements and a picture. We submitted a conceptual design for their review. We followed up a few days later for their approval to proceed but they wanted to get bids from contractors to ensure it's within budget. We continued to follow up on their project but they said they were not ready. We never received their comments on the design nor did they say they were dissatisfied. This conceptual phase was not paid. Initial concept of course is subject to revisions and our contract allows for that. Client list and our design are available to review upon request to prove our competence."

"Our original contract was to redraw on Autocad existing plans with changes as marked up on hard copies. This would include plan check corrections, but not including several client changes. This was completed and the client expressed satisfaction. They had additional changes they want us to include, which was not part of the original contract. They revision took us more than 2 days but charged them only $100.00, though our contract specified $65 per hr. They had additional client changes but because of our schedule we were not able to meet with them in the time frame they required. Client had copies of all files in Autocad."

"This was a project that was started without permits and had received a stop work order from the city. Since this was a church I reduced our normal minimum price by one third. The original sketches given to me and the way it was built were different and they were told that we would have to go thru more than one city plan check."

"I was late due traffic but we communicated by phone and gave client a new estimated time of arrival."

"Although we explain to clients during the initial meeting that we do not have control over the other consultants' work & schedule i.e. structural engineers, they could not separate our responsibilities from them. We turn around our conceptual design within 2 weeks & the complete workings drawing the next 2-3 weeks, and plan check, within a week. Delays usually happens with the engineers."

"Client had a unpermitted prefab addition above his garage that needs permit and none of the engineers we work with would stamp the sub-standard, non-code compliant structure. This caused major delays in the project and the scope of the project changed as a structural engineer wanted to demo the prefab and build a new addition above garage. Also Coastal Commission regulations delayed the project."
