Justin Parker is quite a charming man, and we were certainly taken in by that. He was to stain our two-story condominium building and decks. When painting the house, he sprayed red stain EVERYWHERE. Our steps (front and back) and walkway are covered in red. His workers spattered the atrium windows and doors that lead out to the decks with red paint. He said, not to worry. He had a product that would lift the stain off the steps and the walkway, and he would clean the windows and doors. We now understand that he knew that neither of these tactics would work. He offered to paint the windows and doors for an excellent price, thus solving the problem of red paint spatter. We had been planning to paint them next year anyway, so that seemed an acceptable solution for us. We made the big mistake of paying him before we did a careful inspection of his work. Very soon, unit owners started to notice problems with the painting job. We could see numerous areas where the original off-white paint still showed next to the new paint job. (In just one unit, for example, his workers had not painted any of the frames next to the two windows and the door, they had left unpainted an area three inches wide and 12 inches high behind the door handle as well as spots in the corners). The very last day, Justin sprayed the steps and walkway with the product that was supposed to eradicate the red stain that covers them. Several weeks on, the steps and walkway are still red. This job was so unprofessional that we wonder if he has ever painted a house before. An example: instead of using a power washer on our decks, he used our hoses, which were not strong enough to remove areas where the paint had peeled away, leaving flecks. And then he painted our decks. When we questioned him on this, he said this was how he did it. He would power wash again and would follow up with an additional coat of deck stain. That is what he did, and the decks do look good, though he did have to buy another can of stain to complete the project. It is now July 6, and since June 9, we have been trying to get Justin Parker to come back to fix these problems. At first, there were excuses a truck broke down, he was way upstate in Millinocket... Now he ignores our calls. We have been unfailingly patient and polite, and Justin Parker has taken advantage of us. We also had Justin Parker spread mulch in front of the condo after placing a layer of plastic. Within a month, we noticed weeds coming up through the mulch, so we took a look and discovered that, though we paid for the plastic, there was none. What has happened to us is sad, but the sorry example that Justin Parker has modeled for his son, a high school student, is nothing short of tragic. The young man worked alongside his father and surely understands that his father finds this sort of fly-by-night job acceptable. What an unfortunate way for a young person to begin his working life!
