I made the unfortunate mistake of hiring Peak Custom Remodeling to install a fully cladded Provia steel door on my house. I was looking for a reputable company with great carpenters who would guarantee their work. Instead I had the wrong door poorly installed and discovered that Peak Custom Remodeling subcontracts out their window and door installs to their supplier, Mid South Building Supply in Virginia and doubles their price. Mid South then subcontracts their installs to Adelphia Exteriors in Virginia. I would not be as angry if I hired them to remodel my entire house and they just subbed out the installation of my door but I specifically hired them for one job and that was to install my door. If I would not have been misled by the Peakâ  s salesman that Peak installs their products themselves, I would never had signed a contract with them. If you want to go cheap and roll the dice cut out the middle man and call Mid South Building supply and save your money. If you care about your home and want someone honest, try one of the larger more established Contractors in the area. Below is my detailed experience: The Installer showed up in street clothes in a white box truck with VA plates and no markings. I asked where his help was and he told me â  too far of a trip, couldnâ  t find anyone who would take the ride.â  After the install was complete, I asked him where the cladding on the exterior was and he told me that it was primed wood, I would have to paint it. I was livid that I spent all this money and followed up on an order to ensure it was correct only to have an installer tell me that I would have to finish his job. He gave me an envelope with a Peak survey and put a Peak sign up in my yard. Once he left I noticed that he lowered the door latch without recessing it, my door bell was sticking half out of the brick molding, the door sweep had been torn and there were 4 large screws sticking out of the top of the door trim on the inside of my home. 2 Months and 2 trips later they finally fixed all the issues and field cladded my door. I tried contacting the owner Jon but he never called me back. Instead he had his subcontractors manager call me. Finally the President of Peak, David called me. He seemed to dismiss the issues I had with the installation of my door and thought it was no big deal that they have their suppliers install their doors. He stated that the installers are â  Provia Certifiedâ  , which is a lie because when I called Provia they verified that Adelphia Exteriors never took their installer class. He offered me $250 off the remaining balance. I told him that was not acceptable because the wrong door was installed and while they cladded it in the field it is not the same as being cladded in the factory. He eventually knocked $1,000 off the remaining balance. I had a buddy contact Mid South Building supply to get a quote on the same exact door that was ordered for my house and with installation Mid South would have ordered and INSTALLED the door for $3,400 cheaper than Peak. You can imagine Peak gets a nice discount on top of what Mid South sells to the public. Clearly Peak is what they call a â  Paper Contractorâ  who specializes in volume and marketing to turn a profit. I wish they would allow you to upload pictures so everyone could see the labor quality you could expect when you hire peak to turn around and subcontract out your job. For those who left positive reviews you lucked out on your install, but if you need any more work do yourself a favor and cut the middle man out... Peak does not deserve your easy money.

Recently Peak performed replacing the roof of my house. Starting with the initial meeting between myself and the salesman Howard to being there when the crew first showed I was more than happy with Peak Custom Remodeling. I would recommend Peak Remodeling for your roofing needs.

Most happy with our experience with Jon at Peak Remodeling. He was very professional and accommodating. We had a window replaced and new gutters installed as well as the new roof. The work was done in a timely manner and we were most pleased with the outcome. We highly recommend them.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with the most knowledgeable project manager in the industry who happens to work for the most amazing, professional remodeling company in all of Maryland. Peak is a truly amazing company to work with. At the end of May my roof started leaking. I wasted a lot of time meeting with contractors who had no real knowledge of the industry. I am a single middle aged woman and most of these guys made me feel uncomfortable almost as if they were trying to take advantage of that and my lack of knowledge of the industry. After 3 terrible experiences with other local companies which I will not mention I was blessed when a gentleman named Vito came over and explained to me the huge separation of the home improvement industry, in turn explaining why there is such variance in pricing. Let me say, I learned the hard way! And Vito was absolutely correct, everyone had completely different quotes and the frustrating part was that no one took the time to explain why. Don't get me wrong everyone had a "sales pitch" but PEAK and their knowledgeable project manager had not only educated me but also followed through with everything they had promised. I truly feel, had Vito been the first one out I wouldn't even waste any additional time meeting with anyone else. The information presented was technical and informative. As for Vito his amazing personality had me feeling comfortable as well as happy from start to finish. Within 2 weeks Jon the owner contacted me to schedule my installation. The crew of men arrived promptly and worked nonstop. The job was completed in one day and it looks absolutely beautiful. I cannot say enough about the craftsmanship (no wonder they provide a 50 year warranty on labor) when the work is done to this standard, it's just pride that allows one to stand behind their work for the life and quality of the product. I know that I will continue to recommend this company to all of my friends and family. As soon as I can get my windows done I will be contacting Vito again!. Thank you PEAK and Vito for exceeding all my expectations and for making this process as enjoyable and as easy as possible. My roof looks truly amazing and there is a reason why PEAK remodeling has the reputation they have. You truly go out of you're way to make you're customers happy.

I am so happy with the job Peak Remodeling did with my roof. My son had a leak in his room and Peak Remodeling sent out a representative that quickly diagnosed the problem. The price was great compared to competitors and the customer service was top notch. I never realized what a difference a new roof could make. I live in a townhouse and it's amazing how much nicer my roof looks than all my neighbors when you turn onto my court. I will definitely use Peak Remodeling again in the future.

I strongly disagree with previous reviewers. We selected Peak because of the high ratings they got on Home Advisor, but surprisingly the experience turned up to be one of the worst we had... simply a nightmare. Our house Chimney top blew out during a recent wind storm and needed rebuilding. Peak manager JB contacted us with a decent quote and we signed up with them. They did not show up in time for several days with excuses ranging from weather, even when it is not raining, family issues of some crew members, or missing parts that never showed up. They don't answer phones selectively, they promise they are there just around the corner then don't show up. They claimed that they bought needed material, then later they claimed they are still waiting for it. They will pass us from one crew member to the other. Too much beating around the bush, passing the buck, contradictory statements and promises that are not met. When contacting the owner, David, he starts threatening by calling the insurance for insurance fraud, claiming that our contract is worthless and he would like to cancel the job and demanding that his crew should show up at any time they like, take whatever time they need, and finish the job at their leisure, and we should not complain or further contact the manager. He made it sounds like it is a privilege that they are doing this job for us. When he starts threatening by calling the authorities if we kept calling, we decided to end this nightmare, we asked and emailed them to cancel the contract and return our down payment... we are still waiting for the down payment to be sent... will see!!
Response by Peak Custom Remodeling Corporation: Joseph we are truly sorry for your experience. To my understanding much of what you describe did happen and that falls on us as a company at the end of the day - we take full responsibility. I do want to take the time to at least add a few pieces of information left out and explain the actions we took to rectify this issue so it never happens to another customer again. JB had recently been brought on as a new project manager and you were one of his first jobs to handle. We found out later from you that he had not come out on scheduled appointment dates multiple times but unfortunately we were not aware as he had been lying to us as well. It was too late to rectify it as we didn't know until it had already happened multiple times. It is in no way acceptable and we fully understand your frustrations. It sounds like JB made big promises and was not good about communicating with you and I apologize he was your project manager - that falls on us for bringing him on to represent us. The only thing stated in your review that I am a little confused about is the conversation you referenced with David...the day you spoke to him was the first time we realized what had been going on with JB and your project (we had JUST heard similar feedback from another customer that JB was in charge of dealing with as well). Dave explained to you that we were most likely going to be letting him go within the next week and didn't have anyone else that could manage a chimney construction project (we specialize in replacement roofing, windows, doors and gutters; not construction) so we offered to refund your deposit and cancel the contract. Your wife called in and (I do understand your frustration) screamed at and berated Dave insisting that we do the job Monday even if it had to be JB that did it. Dave said that based on what had happened he could not guarantee JB wouldn't no show again as he had already done several times but we would wait to let him go until after he had one more opportunity to make things right and complete your project - but that we would prefer to part ways amicably and refund your deposit so you can start fresh with a different contractor. That is the why Dave said not to contact the project manager any more - but you elected to insist JB do the work. As could be expected he didn't show up once again and he was immediately terminated. Your wife then called again and berated and screamed at whoever she talked to and demanded the contract be canceled and the deposit be refunded - as we had suggested be done to begin with based on everything you had already been through. The deposit check was mailed within 24 hours and you should have had it for a few weeks now. Almost every mention of "they" referring to employees of Peak was specifically JB - which again is our responsibility for hiring him and not doing a better job of choosing who to represent us - but is absolutely not a reflection of the rest of our staff, our installers, or our work; which is why our other customer reviews are so positive. Lastly, the insurance fraud portion of the conversation did happen and is accurate and here is the explanation as Dave tried to explain - when you insisted we proceed with the work and Dave told you not to contact JB on his cell phone but to deal directly with us through the office, he asked for you to send a copy of your insurance approval so we could review it and make sure the contract JB wrote up was for the amount of the approval. You would not send/disclose the approval paperwork or amount - which typically in this business is because their approval is for more than our initial estimate or agreement before performing the work. It actually is committing insurance fraud by the consumer if they pocket a portion of their approval money and do not release those funds to the contractor, as long as the work performed lines up with the work approved by the insurance company.

Project: New Windows
Peak Custom Remodeling did a fantastic job with my new windows. I'm a first time homeowner so every new project I complete at my house, I'm looking at with fresh eyes and learning the whole process as I go. Jon and his team were fantastic with making sure I understood everything that was happening and the schedule in which it would happen and they were on time for every appointment. They produced for me beautiful custom windows that have already helped me see a decrease in energy usage and I'm so happy I chose to work with them!

We first selected Peak Custom Remodeling and two other companies for estimates after reading reviews. The reviews for Peak were uniformly complimentary for good reason. This company actually follows its company philosophy. Pat, our project manager, was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and extremely interesting as he talked about the company, roofing materials, the process to be used for installation, warranties, worker training, professional organizations, and community support. His presentation was thoroughly supported by the work done by the roofing crew during the week of 10/9/17. They were experienced, efficient, and courteous. Our house is fairly small, but we've been told by professionals that the total roofing area is large. In spite of that assessment, our roof was installed and the property left clear and clean in one day. When one nail was found the next day, a second sweep with the magnet was applied. I would certainly recommend Peak Custom Remodeling and will use the company for other work when needed.
Response by Peak Custom Remodeling Corporation: Thank you for the detailed feedback and for taking the time to share your experience. We truly appreciate your business and your recommendation!
