TLDR Version: I will hire them again without question! PQC and its owner Val Velasquez are an up-and-coming power in home renovation / construction in the area. They turned my near-teardown inherited house into a safe, beautiful, clean, like-new home and earned me a successful, problem free sale. I recommend them wholeheartedly, with the caveat that there might be communication issues, and you'll need to manage those closely for maximum success with their team. Full Review: I contracted with PQC to do a whole home rehab on a house that had been hoarded and neglected for ~20 years, with almost no routine maintenance taking place during that entire period. There had been severe vermin infestations, and extensive damage, including damage to the envelope of the building on its south side from weathering and neglect. The house wasn't a tear-down, but it was getting there. Of 5 contractors we contacted, PQC came in with an extremely comprehensive bid - not the highest, not the lowest, but the most thoughtful. Val, the owner of the firm, was our point person and had a great eye for redesign opportunities that weren't even on our menu when going into the rehab. Work done: * New Hardie Plank siding and underlayment with fixes to envelope damage of the house. * New trex deck. Color and design were great with the structure. * New fencing on 2 sides of the house, It was perfectly uniform and plumb, which shouldn't be an item of note, but standards for fence building in the area seem sketchy. * Full bathroom renovations for both baths. One to the drywall, the other a touch up. All new tile. * Full refinishes for all cabs in bathrooms. Refinish skills made them look new and the new hardware and mechanicals were perfect. * Full kitchen remodel with all new appliances, counters, and full electrical/code updates. Again, tile and surface work was magnificent. Appliances were competitively priced. * All new lighting fixtures and switches. >99% success rate across all electrical work. All passed inspection/all up to current code. * All new paint, carpet, lvp flooring and refinish and refurb of every interior door and all molding/trim. Drywall patching was very skilled, excellent use of texture, any errors quickly corrected. Biggest highlights: Great subcontractor management: they steered us away from a crazy sub bidder who wanted us to drop 50k on invasive foundation work. Val correctly judged that there were some measurement issues in the framing, and his judgment was independently verified by a third party. Savings of ~$45-75,000 in contractor skepticism alone! Any personnel issues were handled well and the site was kept secure. Other highlights: We received feedback from our neighbors that the PQC crews were respectful of their property and mindful of potential sound concerns, which many crews don't even think of when doing work. They were also very careful about neatness when deconstructing a defunct shed. The flaws: There was some weakness in some of the plumbing work - some flex tube was used in bathroom sink drains out of haste, and some connections weren't optimally tight, but when it was pointed out as a problem it got remedied quickly with apology. I think they need to build their bench in the plumbing area or find better subs for that. Communication wasn't as good when Val wasn't available, but building a leadership team, especially several forepersons for many crews is hard. I expect this will get resolved quickly. I will hire them again, and I expect them to go very far!
