Beginning as a family business in the 1980's, Precision Door Service organized as an informal partnership in 1997. With aspirations of building the best garage door company in America, Precision's founders began a franchise program that would be designed for national expansion. In less than 3 years after the first franchise opening in September 1999, Precision Door Service has over 60 locations across the country. The initial sales call/consultation was scheduled for a Saturday afternoon- recd no notification of the tech running late- only found out he was not going to make it until I called the office wondering where the tech was- Strike One The tech called me after I called the office and said he could not make it Saturday so we rescheduled for Sunday morning. He made it on time but after running through a pretty intensive evaluation he came to the conclusion that my current garage door opener was a piece of crap that needed to be totally replaced. Yes the opener is 20 years old, but all it needed was a new drive belt, two new sensor "eyes" and a new outdoor keypad- Strike Two. I accepted the job quote despite having second thoughts about the need to completely replace the entire system because the difference in price between getting a new system and overhauling the existing one was only $100, but even after instantly accepting the job quote on Sunday, noone called me from the office until Wednesday afternoon and they called me at HOME instead of calling the work number I gave the tech. Because of this error, I called them on Thursday from work praying I could get an appointment the next day (friday) because I had scheduled that day off of work so I could be home for the install. Luckily they still had a Friday appointment time available on Friday afternoon, but that whole stressful situation could have been easily averted if the office called me earlier in the week or called the number I instructed the tech to use to setup the appt time- Strike Three. Now comes the icing the cake- Friday afternoon rolls around and it's two hours after the appt time- no tech, no phone call- so I call the office yet again to inquire of the tech's whereabouts. No sooner do I hang up the phone and I hear my doorbell- It's the OWNER of Precision Door that has his right arm in a sling that is there to help train/supervise the tech that should have arrived two hours earlier. After ten minutes, the poor owner got a phone call from the office announcing the tech had wrecked his truck and would not be arriving so the owner ended up fixing our opener himself with one good arm. I felt sorry as heck for the owner, but it turned out being a blessing in disguise for me because the owner realized there was nothing wrong with my power unit and fixed my problem for $400 less than what I was quoted for the new system. In the end, the work was done well and at a fair price, but communication was horrid throughout the entire process and there was absolutely zero respect for our time as both appts were missed by more than two hours with no communication from the office or the techs. Both the tech and the owner knew their garage door openers and they knew what they were doing, but I have to downgrade them for the fact the tech tried to sell me a new opener when a new system was not necessary and I guess that's the main thing that I was turned off by but the missed appointment times and the lack of communication sure as heck didn't help. My hats off to the owner for trying like heck to make things right because if it wasn't for him, Precision would have recd 1 stars across the board in this review...
