Wood Flooring Refinish

Their communication is very, very poor - phone calls weren't returned for days. When the job was finished, the quality was poor, and the finishes in the different rooms didn't match. When we pointed it out, they said perhaps it was an optical illusion, and charged us more to put another finish coat on it. It's now a year after the job, and some of the boards are warped, like they didn't seal them properly. I would NEVER hire this company again.

Beware - ProWorks Flooring looks like a first rate service but their subcontractors and employees do not give quality service. I paid top dollar to go with ProWorks over cheaper alternatives because they appeared very professional. I had them install 800 sq of hardwoods and the work was poor. Boards were uneven and the finish was terrible. Pieces of dirt and paint brush strands were embedded in the varnish. Other areas had brush strokes in the varnish. I repeatedly asked them to fix the problems and they said it was just part of the process. If you are ok with mediocre work, Proworks is fine. Otherwise, I would look elsewhere.

Laminate Wood or Stone Flooring Installation

Terrible job. Hardwood floors were improperly coated & had to be re-done by another co. Tiles are floating, grout falling out. The hardwood staircase violated the building code. Metal balusters falling out. They broke the original railing and cut metal balusters rendering them unusable (>3K to replace) . Charged my Visa w/out authoriz. for 10K. Refunded when we filed a dispute w/Visa. The entire staircase had to be re-done at the cost of 30K (mahagony). Proworks claims that 10K we held back s/be enough (material alone was more + demo and re-install). Phone calls for warranty work go unanswered. And they claim they have no insurance coverage

Overall, they did an ok job, but seemed to lack attention to detail. They had to come back out and seal some cracks they missed the first time. Also, doesn't seem like they made an effort to tear out and refill glue in between boards on the wood floor and didn't remove divets in the floor as part of refinishing process. The screen and coat looks good.

Took 2x as long. Dark stain did not match sample. Waterbase finish was flat, pourous and rough. My quote said 3 coats finish but they only did 2 and then said I didn't need the 3rd. Product mfr stated finish requires min 3 coats. I hired another contractor addit. $1500 to do 3rd coat. Ripped drywall finish removing baseboards; chipped /stained existing wood door frames & staircase. Large debree & staples in finish. No chalk line so entry didn't line up with great rm. Subcontractors disagree with salesperson's promises. Safety concerns-Left live wires loose in floor recepticles buried in sawdust. Pressured to pay despite dissatisfaction

I strongly recommend you do not hire this company. They subcontracted the job out to an individual who was very unprofessional. They came in before their start date, began sanding floors in rooms with wet paint and generally disrespected the other contractors. They shoved a soda can thru the stair railings which had just been painted and had a visitor in the house who was sitting on a half wall that was also recently painted. The painters were so upset they walked off the job. At the first inspection of the "completed" job, there was a large walk in closet that wasn't done, the thresholds were not done and there were gashes in the floors that had not been filled. The company responded to my phone calls but it was a struggle to get the work completed. When I pointed these items out, I was told that they decided I should carpet that closet and that the thresholds were not part of the floor. I would ask them to come back, fix a problem and they would agree. However, they would tell me they would be back the next day and then not come for several days to a week. When they came back, they would fix a part of the problem and then we would start the process again. For example, they did not sand the area around or under the hot water radiators. When I pointed this out, I was told that the sanding machine wouldn't fit under the radiators. After some discussion I finally took a scraper and sandpaper and demonstrated how to do it by hand to at least get off the paint so it wasn't visible from across the room. They agreed to send the subcontractor back. He came in and did one of the 4 radiators. I again called and asked that they do the other 3. They came back in and put a finish down that didn't match what was on the rest of the floor.

"It is ProWorks' way to do whatever it takes to please our customer. Unfortunately, on this job our willingness to go above and beyond the terms of our contract was not appreciated. Even though we made several trips to her house after the job was done to address her concerns and fix new damage to the floors, Ms.S. looks at our generosity as something she deserved, not something given in goodwill."

Beyond the quality of the work, which was excellent, I appreciated their recommendations on the type of finish (semi-gloss versus high-gloss) to use on my wood floor. I much happier with the results and I no longer notice scrapes and scratches on the floor as much as I used to. Well done.

I obtained several flooring bids for a remodeling project that consists of new flooring to match existing flooring in a mid century modern house. ProWorks Flooring seemed to be the most knowledgeable and professional of them all. Now that the new flooring has been installed, ProWorks has justified our choice. Their installers were efficient, careful, and highly skilled, and they had good solutions to problems that can often crop up in a job of this size, from suggesting just the right kind of filler to matching the grain in two pieces that made up a very long threshold. They have accommodated our needs in a two-stage project, and I look forw

A Nightmare! Got the quote then they raised the price; told it would take 1 week but it took almost 4; they got stain on 3 rooms of carpet and only replaced it because we threatened legal action; the job is a mess and we are now getting bids to get the floors refinished (which will cost $3000$4000) There are other companies out there - pick another company! I'd give them no stars if this site would let me.
Response from ProWorks Flooring, LLC
"Under Review: Each allegation contained in this review is inaccurate. Customer received higher quality carpet than existed in home previously (without any legal threats), was offered a free finish ($3000-$4000) at a time of their convenience, and customer was presented with change in quote before work had begun and was given ample opportunity to bow out and receive a full deposit refund."

The quality of the work that was done correctly was very good. We had a few glitches that proved frustrating along the way with this company, however. Firstly, after the job was over, my husband and I noticed there were several places where a second coat of finish had not been applied and the floor was rough (around the stove, in two closets, along the floorboard in the hall). There were scheduling problems in that they said they would have things done at a certain time and then they'd show up at different hours, which was a problem because we were having other work done on the house at the time. Overall, the experience was just so so.

Job started out well, but the installer took off on a Tuesday and did not return. Company did not call -- I had to pursue them to get the job finished. Installer put in several broken pieces of laminate rather than replace them at the time, and stairway nosing sticks up and flexes underfoot -- had I known the steps would be so much shallower, not a flat surface to step down on, and not a rigid surface, I would never have had them do the stairway. Job was touted as 3-4 days but was 12 days from start to eventual finish, and laminate product bows in several places throughout my home.

Installation was ok, as was price but the finishing touches were bad or non existant. They left glue on my adjacent flooring and did not connect the new floor to the rooms with the older flooring (ie connect the laminate to the carpet that started in onther room and connect new hardwood step to original hardwood on landing). They also did not return my call when I called to see if someone could come out and fix the small issues I had.
